TOPIC: ISSUE160 - "The most essential quality of an effective leader is the ability to remain consistently committed to particular principles and objectives. Any leader who is quickly and easily influenced by shifts in popular opinion will accomplish little."

1.        An effective leader should has the sprit that insist on their goal and do not afraid the failure
2.        An effective leader should listen people's voice, which is important a government.
3.        In some instance, an effect leader should change his principles to fit the variational environment.

I do not agree with the speaker's opinion that an effective leader must have the ability to remain consistently committed to particular principles and objectives. In my point of view, we should take a balance between the hold on your objectives and influenced by people.

Admittedly, an effective leader should has the sprit that insist on their goal and do not afraid the failure, because the sprit of insistence is the base to success. In the advanced society nearly no goal can be attained easily. If one give up after some times failure and does not have the sprit of insistence, he will never taste the happiness of the success Take the Edison as an example; in order to invent the bulbs Edison have experienced thousands of failures. Finally, he has lighted the whole world. When it refers to political realm, countless leader's success since they have the sprit to hold on their dream and never stop at the face of failures. Martin Luther King is a good example to support the conclusion. From 1955 Martin begin his way of getting equal rights for black people till 1963 he made the speech “I have a dream” in Washington. He has experienced numberless frustrations and finally just because of his constancy, his thinking was admitted by the whole world.


However, an effective leader should listen people's voice, which is important a government. Without people's opinion, the leader will not know what is people's need and what the society should be changed. If the leader only considers his goal, the nations will be in dangerous. In ancient China of Qin dynasty, The king named Ying Zheng called most man in the nation to build the Great Wall. However, because of the poor working tools and condition, many people dead. Ying Zheng do not listen people's opinion to stop the working and hold on his goal. Finally, his kingdom was overthrew in a insurgence


What is more, in some instance, an effect leader should change his principles to fit the variational environment. In beginning of the 2003, SARS became serious in China, In order to avoid people’s scare, the government blank off all news about the SARS in China to public. It is wrong for the government to hold the principle that covers the SARS’ fact to public. Although the government changed its principle later, it is so late that many people dead since lack the information of SARS.  


To sum up, we should take a balance view in the topic. A leader should have the sprit to insist on his goal and never give up, which is essential the success. What is more, one leader should listen the people's voice and change his principle with the variational surroundings in order to justify his goals to fit people's profits.
