Fundamentally I disagree with the author's assertion. Although that it is the artists who create those great pieces of works, critics also play a vital in many aspects of the spread of the beauty of art.

Firstly, the critics help those who have not received professional trainings of art to approach and then realize the insight meaning of the arts, often too abstract to even attract the public's attention, not mention the real understanding and enjoyment of the arts. Without the great decipher work done Ruchang Zhou, the most famous and popular of the expert on the unprecedented tale 'A tale of the stone', those Chinese who lack basic literate skills and abilities may not accept or even realize the beauty of 'The tale of a stone', which reveals almost all the secrets of the ancient Chinese society in portraying the history of a enormous official family. In a word, critics are the bridge between the common people and the arts. Many people will be deprived the rights to enjoy those master pieces unless there are the direction and enlightenment given by the critics.

Secondly, the artists themselves can also be benefited from the criticism provided by their contemporary critics, as it did in Mozart, the brilliant pianist. The music style of Mozart in his early age indeed was welcomed by those nobles, but actually was luxury and superficial. The critic, that is his father, pointed out the disadvantage of Mozart's work, and Mozart fortunately and gladly accepted the suggestion, which resulted in the future greater achievements of Mozart. The classical style of Mozart has made him the milestone in the history of music. It makes no harm that the arts choose some opinions upon their jobs from other artists and critics, mostly from the professional critics, to consider whether to accept the adjustment. Admittedly the criticisms sometimes limit the fashionable trends leaded by some excellent artists, or prohibit the development of certain brand-new style of art, but this cannot cover their contribution to keep a proper way of the growing of arts and the artists.

Thirdly, the critics can always explore the deeper significances of several pieces of arts which may give the work the second life and may also exceed the original purpose of the artists who have created them, often after the creators have already passed away. One apt illustration is that Van Gogh and his modern style pictures. It may be secret to all forever that whether Van Gogh knew the primary significance of his works, but it is true that when Van Gogh was still alive, and even years after his death, none of his pictures was sold out, except the one that was purchased by his brother in order to comfort the frustrated heart of Van Gogh. He and his works were simply neglected at that time. However, attributed to the hardworking and insightful eyes of several generations of critics, the works of Van Gogh thrived, and began to have its onw niches in the history of painting. In the recent years, the situation of Van Gogh and his master pieces have already been rised to an unprecedented high level. Without critics, Van Gogh's achievements may have already lost in the wild areas, rather than becoming the most valuable treasures of human race.

In summary, the critics do contribute a lot to the transition, the adjustment, and the reveal of the arts originally founded by the artists. Although sometimes they fail to support the development of the arts, no one can deny their great accomplishments in the realm of art, as discussed above.

其实我觉得还是不要否定的比较好些,好像关于critic的资料没有关于art的多…写起来可能会比较难受.
