TOPIC: ISSUE208 - "The way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests. You can tell much about a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people."

——提纲——
1. Observing individuals' dress and behavior, to some extent, can inform us their character, as the dress and behavior indeed reflect owners' favors and attitudes.  Paris Hilton—mammonist,  the president of World Bank, Paul Wolfowitz, holes on his socks, a visit to a mosque in Turkey
2.However, the way of an individual cannot wholly imply his/her nature, not to mention the society. Thailand, many clubs and prostitutes for sake, but a very conservative nation. Janpanese, 看上去温顺 实际侵略性很强
3。要了解一个社会 应该对其历史和traditional 风俗进行研究 才更明白 the root of values

——正文——
The speaker claims that one can be inferred a lot about a society by inspecting the way of look, dress, and act of its members. Although I concede that this method is a direct way to determine the initial evaluation of a person, I suspect that people can correctly assess a society by this way.

Admittedly, observing individuals' appearance and behavior, to some extent, can inform us their character. It has been proved by psychologists that the way people look, dress and behave can partly reflect the owners' favors and attitudes. People always dress themselves and conduct, whether intentionally or subconsciously, following their own standards and viewpoints. For instance, a mammonist would decorate himself/herself with a stunning pearl necklace, a costly dress and a prohibitively watch, for showing off his/her wealth, such as Paris Hilton, who earns her fame by spending money like water. We can easily recognize that such people's personality and their ideas of living by looking into their daily life. Take, Paul Wolfowitz, as another example. The holes on Paul Wolfowitz's socks, which once were caught by worldwide mass media on his visit to Turkey, breaking people's expect that the president of World Bank would not lead a saving life. This news further demonstrates that it is a direct way that one can be told the character of others' by their dress and behavior.

However, as the cliché goes-- one cannot judge a book by its cover, the appearance and act of individuals may fail to totally represent their nature, not to mention the society’s. To a conservative society, people are always too shy to discuss the sex, and it is impossible to find out streets that fraught with prostitutes. Nevertheless, Thailand, which is a very conservative nation, probably can act as an opposed instance for this reasoning--Thai boys would never embrace their girlfriends in the public, while people can see a myriad of sexual trades on the street day and night. Also, although Japanese often seems to be mild, courteous and genteel toward others, their brutality and ambition is actually aptly revealed by the invasion to China and Korea in the 20th century, during which they committed countless crimes, like barbarous massacre in Nanjing, China. Therefore, learning a society is very complicated, since a plenty of potential factors cannot be explained superficially by the way of its members' daily conduct.

If aim at knowing a particular society, people should take more research on its background, say, the history and geographic characters. Still invite the Thailand and Japan to serve for a further illustration. Thailand's overwhelming prostitutes may due to the long term of destitute status of its society. As many Thai girls are too poor to feed themselves, they have to pick this career for survival. In another word, it is the historical factor--destitution--catalyzed Thailand's sexual industry to become mature. Considering the geographic reasons, Japan is a small country holding limited resources, which leads its people to have the potential intention that need to deprive abundant property from elsewhere. Obviously, instead of investigating various respects of a society, if one simply determines the society as the way that the speaker recommends, he/she would be confused with its certain phenomenon, or omit some hidden values of the society.

To sum up, even though appearance and behavior of members of a society always contain a lot of information about individuals' thought and even the society's, we can ensure the society's ideas and values diversely and comprehensively only when making more effort to study its own background.

If aim at knowing a particular society, people should take more research on its background(个人感觉背景,应该包括后面的say, the history and geographic等)对啊 say 表对background的举例啊,难道不行~? say, the history and geographic characters. Still invite the Thailand and Japan to serve for a further illustration. Thailand's overwhelming prostitutes may due to the long term of destitute status of its society. As many Thai girls are too poor to feed themselves, they have to pick this career for survival. In another word, it is the historical factor--destitution--catalyzed Thailand's sexual industry to become mature.(贫穷好像作为历史原因有点牵强吧?)其实这里我当时写的时候也觉得。。我再想想。。 Considering the geographic reasons, Japan is a small country holding limited resources, which leads its people to have the potential intention that need to deprive abundant property from elsewhere. Obviously, instead of investigating various respects of a society, if one simply determines the society as the way that the speaker recommends, he/she would be confused with its certain phenomenon, or omit some hidden values of the society.

To sum up, even though appearance and behavior of members of a society always contain a lot of information about individuals' thought and even the society's(even the society's 这个文章里好像米有提到呵),对哦。。那我把这几个词删了八~
we can ensure the society's ideas and values diversely and comprehensively we can comprehensively grasp the society's ideas and values我这里是想说 只有更努力研究社会的背景,我们才能很全面的了解一个社会。
