"There is evidence that consumers are becoming more and more interested in growing their own vegetables. A national survey conducted last month indicated that many consumers were dissatisfied with the quality of fresh vegetables available in supermarkets. And locally, the gardening magazine Great Gardens has sold out at the Village News stand three months in a row. Thus, we at Green Thumb Gardening Center can increase our profits by greatly expanding the variety of vegetable seeds we stock for gardeners this coming spring."

In this argument, the arguer advocates that in order to increase our profits we should greatly expand the diversity of vegetable seeds we stock for gardeners this coming spring. To substantiate his argument, the arguer points out the consumers are becoming increasingly interested in growing vegetables. Plus, the arguer cites a survey that indicated many consumers were discontent with the quality of vegetables in supermarkets. In addition, the arguer says the high sales of a local gardening magazine. However, i cannot agree it for the following reasons:
Firstly, the arguer implies the high consumption of seeds will be achieved due to the people's increasing interested in growing vegetables. But this does not necessarily mean that people will indeed grow them in daily lives. Perhaps people are so engaged in their jobs that have little time to care for the vegetables. Moreover, perhaps not every one is able to grow vegetables by themselves, for the process is brimming with complicated methods so as to gain a harvest. All the possibilities should be taken into account. But it seems the author has neglected them.
Secondly, the arguer fails to provide evidence to prove the trend displayed in the national survey will contribute to the high consumption of seeds in the future. Nonetheless, this result of this national survey is not in accordance with the condition of supermarket in the suburban town. People in town are so fancy about the vegetables in local supermarket in that they are extremely fresh and of low price. Even if the national survey rightly reflects the condition in town, residents in town can choose to go to other places such as farm to purchase vegetables because of the geographical advantages. Unless the arguer precludes these factors, the argument would not be convincing.
Last but no least, the arguer utilizes the popularity of a gardening magazine to demonstrate the increase sales of seeds. However, we have no idea about the concrete published number of the magazine. Perhaps the number of it is so small that sells quickly. Further, even if we admit that there are lots of magazine published every month, it is the novel advertisements or other things that appeals to the readers, rather than the information about gardening. Or perhaps the readers are not interested in growing vegetables at all, what they like is simply reading the magazine about it, which is enough in their eyes. If it is the case, the argument should be questioned again.
As it stands, the argument is not well reasoned. To make it logically reasonable, the arguer would have to provide more details about the opinions of local resident. Additionally, the arguer has to offer information about the survey and the magazine.
