题目:ISSUE17 - "There are two types of laws: just and unjust. Every individual in a society has a responsibility to obey just laws and, even more importantly, to disobey and resist unjust laws."
Laws are essential in all of the society in human society. (这一句做开头。。两个society有点重复~)It can judge people's behaviors literately. In the recent decades, there are more and more suits (?)happened in China that the business of the lawyer is more flourish than ever before. In certain cases, the law seems like adjustable. Then the question rises, shall we obey the unjust laws?
Whether the law is just or not is judged by person, which could be just to some one, while unjust to others. The justice of the law is not always objective. In that case, the law will lose its goal if judged by people. For example, in 1980's, China established several laws to provide more money flourish into the wealthy men's pocket, in order to make the country's economy grow faster. And these laws attribute huge effects on the development of China, yet for the majority of the population, they think the laws are unjust for them. Without the fast and hard rules of law, a society cannot be expected to be able to comply with those laws. Certain standards for enforcement and judgment must of course (这俩取一就行,不然累赘。)be followed, but with a certain amount of discretion allowed to make sure that. Although justice is blind, it is not stupid. Every country has its own institute to make and abolish laws, and inside the institute there are a lot of experts to deal with the law.
The very function of law is to bring stability and order to the group of people that the laws are enforced upon. For a legal system to work for a society, the laws must be knowable, fair and implemented equally among the population. The chancellor of Qin kingdom, Sangyang, in the Zhou Dynasty of China, which is about 2,200 years ago, is the best example. He put a wood pile in the south gate of the city, and said anyone who could carry the wood pile to the north gate of the city will get 50 jin, which is a large amount of money in his time. At first, everybody thought he was kidding and did not care about it. Then a man did it and got the money. From then, the people in the whole country thought his new laws are implement and thus the laws are carried out efficiently.
However, in reality, the law is adaptable and flexible in certain situations, places and times. Although the written rules of law must be fixed and seldom changed, the people that enforce the laws, as well as those who judge those who break the laws, have a certain amount of built-in discretion to see that justice is done. There are many situations of the country. If the country is at war, the laws must be made to ensure the country to win the war. When the country is not at war, certain laws, as martial law is not necessary. The people in Israel still remember the slaughter to the innocent Arab residents, because of the untimely martial law which is made by the government of Israel.
For the reasons mentioned above, I hold that we should obey the laws no matter it is just or not. If one judge the law from his own situation, then there may be thousands of opinion about whether the law is just. Of course, several experts must supervise the law in order to make it just for most of people.
