The speaker claims that in order to improve the quality of education in college and university, all faculties should be required to take part in profession related work. I strongly agree with the statement for those fields in which outside work is appropriate as both professors and students would gain much.

Admittedly, I concede that there are some academic areas where there is no suitable outside work for professors to work. For example, professors in theoretical physics do not have any profession relevant fields to work with as what they focus on is the theoretical disciplines of microcosmic particles, which serve to better understanding of real world but do not have any practical application at all. Philosophy, without doubt, is another academy not needing any outside work. What these professors need to do is merely researching the mental disciplines of ancient philosophers and current people, uncovering the way people think and how people deal with others. In short, there are some subjects that do not need outside work at all considering the few applications of these subjects.

However, aside from the foregoing provisos, I tend to agree that outside work in profession related region would be beneficial to both professors and students.

For professors, who attend outside work from time to time, it is sure that they would be sensitive to the directions of the regions they are focusing on.
For supporting example, one needs look no further than development of computer science. Through attending the meeting held by large IT Company, professors would be able to get idea of the direction of the development of software and hardware, helping them choose proper research region. By listening to the command of ordinary people as well as governments, computer science professors would be able to catch the problems of current research directions. Another example to illustrate my viewpoint comes from the research of economy. In order to make clear of the real operation of the market, professors need to communicate with both consumers and producers other than doing pure research in the lab. In a word, outside work help a professor to better understand his research field.

Besides professors, students would probably gain much from the outside work of their professors. Instead of learning merely theoretical knowledge, students majored in mathematics would be able to understand the applications, demonstrated by their teachers in class, of mathematics in physics, engineering and economy, making them more and more interested in learning, throwing the misunderstanding that mathematics is bored and useless. For students majored in computer science, for example by listening to the professor's talk about the demands in the market for skilled computer administrators and internet workers, they would be easy to decide the course suitable for their future work, designing the developing after graduation as soon as possible. And students majored in Chinese literature would catch information from their teachers if they communicate with Chinese companies frequently, helping them to fetch better work in the competitive society. In short, professors' outside work would not only makes students more interested in learning but also help them find suitable job more easily.

To sum up, aside from those regions not needing any outside work, I strongly agree that professors' outside work is necessary, considering the improvements in the professor's researches as well as the helps for students' future development.
