Issue 212:If a goal is worthy, then any means to take to attain it is justifiable.

The luxucious and convenient modern life we enjoy is brought about by the numerous achievements in all fields—the achievements sterming from the persuit of worthy goals of scietists, artists, politicians and the like.So many peple assert, the author included, that it is justifiable to take any means to attain the goal if it’s worthwhile. This view,in my eyes,is foundamently irrational in ignoring that some means taken may be harmful to the society or individuals even them can help achieve a worthy goal.

Admittly.when a goal is worthy,it will be the paremount impetus for us to take actions to reach it,and we should do so as a matter of course.Mother Teresa, the owner of the Nobel Peace Prize, for example, dedicated all her life to give aids to the poorest of the poor in India because she thought helping the poor is a virtue and can promote the peace and stability of the world as a whole.Yuan Longping, the father of hybrid rice, for another example, spent the most time of his life in crop amelioration and finally developed the hybrid rice, which gave such developing countries as China,India, and Vienant and the whole world a powerful force in the fight against stavation, for the persuit of his goal—a goal that to extricate the poor from the suffering of famine.

Nonetheless, there hardly exists a clear criteria to categorize goals into worthy and unworthy ones distinctly.Whether a goal is worthwhile is more of a subjective issue that differs from individual to individual according to personal interest, education level, religious belief, and value system.Consider human cloning, one of the most controversial issues at present. Some people believe it's a worthwhile goal to achieve for the reason that any disease can be cured on the basis of human cloning, while others don’t agree, for the consideration that it will cause great ethical problems.Since it is hard for individul to decide whether a goal is worthy or not,no mention to judge which means to take is justifiable.

Though a goal is worthy, not all the means to attain it are justifiable, which is self-evident. Can we say it is justifiable to aggresse other contries for the well-being of own national citizens? Can we say it is justifiable to slaughter all the people who disobey laws for the goal of maintaining the social stability? Can we say it is justifiable to dismiss all the infringed factories for the goal of decreasing air polution? Can we say it is justifiable to cheat in exams for high scores? There’s no doubt all the goals mentioned above are worthwhile indeed, however the actions taken to achieve them are unutterably harmful to society.

Fortunately, there are still somes measures can help us to decide which means are feasible. As individuals are part of the society, the means taken should be consistent with the ends in view. When we are about to persue something worthwhile, what should be rooted in our mind are that we can do nothing to harm the security and welfare of others,or the stability and tranquility of society. We need to think over that is the means to take are in keeping with the personal interest as well as others’ and does they accord with laws and morality?Only by this way,can we attain the goals effectively and efficiently.

In summary, from all the discussion above,we can safty to draw the conclusion that we can only take mean, not any,but rational and proper, to attain the worthwhile goals.

(以上两端角度都是很好的,但是这两段是本文论述的重点,如果能再深入展开的话会更好。毕竟也是研究生考试嘛,测试的难点就在这里啦~)
