This is not the era of the leaders, this is not the era of the people who can succeed without others’ help. The social values as a whole are being changed by a large amount of thoughts and opinions. In short, with the changeable values, there are more and more heated issues which were aroused such as what is the importance to define the Great Man? And whether the greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them?

I agree the opinion that most famous people are not so eminent during their lives, especially in the classical time. In the history of art, except for Piccaso, those painters who lived before him were almost unknown, since during those ages lacking the high-efficiency transportations and the artistic critics, painters had little opportunity to show their masterpieces to the public. Let alone those who donated their lives in the dark shabby labs.

However, with the development of the technology for human’s communications and the freely expressing policies, people can be easy to know what happened in this world, who made a great contribution in the modern society. And with the arising of more and more awarding conferences such as the Nobel Prize and Oscar, the greatness of individuals can easily show their great works to the world. And the contemporary people also think highly of their works sincerely.

The standard of the greatness is also controversy, since there is a not fixed value to define the GREAT. However, our people who living in today cannot fails to consider the real contributions that were made by those who are always misunderstood by their contemporaries, since we learned a lot from the serious history. Take the theory of the population in China for example, a social scientist conducted that if we still keep the high speed of population increase in order to enhance the productivity, China would be very poor and there would be no more space for them to live, but people never notice the valuable opinion of him，so much so that the prediction came true.

As what did I wrote above, the greatness of individuals cannot be ignored by the contemporaries. It would be regretful for human beings that if our people cannot enjoy the brilliant mind and works of the great man. Moreover, the greatness of the individuals is permanent for human race to remember generation after generation.
