While the passage convinces that Americans declined their donation substantially in recent years and unlikely to increase in the near future, the lecturer talks about the issue that charitable giving will not go down so soon and gives some negative views.

First, government programs cannot cover all the health care when the increasing elderly population asks for help. In other words, public services are not provided enough to meet the need of the growing rely-on. This directly contradicts what the passage indicates.

Second, people can be optimistic towards the future of the charitable giving. Thanks to the angry public, the managers of some prominent national charities who used to receive huge salaries should pay for the expenses which considered as waste and damage to the charitable purposes on their own.
As a result, contrary to what is mentioned in the reading passage, people will regain the confidence and go on supporting the charity career.


Third, people donate to what they think worthwhile without doubt. That is, though people become careful and even than before and some refuse to donate without prove of the charitable organization, others still choose to concern about those who need help. This point completely refuses the viewpoint that appeared in the passage.
