As we all know, people's appearance that is look and dress and People's behavior that is action both can reveal their attitudes and interests. After study, we can find that these facets can also reveal a society's ideas and values. In the following, I will give evidence to support the conclusion.

On the one hand, we often get the first impressions of a person from his appearance. When someone dresses well and floridly, we will think he must be very rich and have high social position. When someone dresses himself with dirty and low-cost clothes, we are easy to treat him as a poor and humble person. The appearance also can reveal some characters of a society. For example, the women of Arab countries should not let their face glimpsed by people except their husbands, and this custom shows that the women in these countries have very low social position and are considered as their husbands' appendixes. For another example, Frenchmen always dress as they like, and the phenomenon tells us that they are very romantic. Moreover, we can find the change of a society from its people's appearance variety. Take China as an example, several years ago, dressing jeans was thought as a crazy action and children who wanted to dress jeans would be blamed strictly by their parents because the parents thought the action is the symptom of their children to get worse. In fact the ideas of those people are totally absurd and very traditional. Now those ideas have disappeared and everyone can put on jeans freely, indeed, the jeans are even considered as fashion. From the great differences, we can know that the ideas and values of China have changed dramatically during these years.

On the other hand, we have to admit that sometimes our eyes will cheat us, in other words, to judge a person only by his appearance maybe make some mistakes. In fact, it is bias that thinking a person dressed well as a successful one and being reluctant to communicate with people with poor clothes. However, behavior is the real reaction of one's heart and more suitable for learning a person’s essence. For instance, when a person is very polite and personable, we can directly conclude that he has good bearing. If most people of a society perform like this, we will learn that the society's vogue is considerable good. For another example, there are great differences on treating with money between American and Chinese. American prefer to spend all their money and even borrow money from bank to purchase something they like, however, Chinese more like to save their money to banks and most of them will not choose the consumption mode that first consume and refund later. From this facet, the distinction of values between American and Chinese can be observed.

To sum up, it is true that we can tell much about a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people, however, we should consider the both facets at the same time, especially cannot overlook the behavior.
