In the argument, the arguer recommends that dentists who advertise to attract patients should target the male consumer and emphasize both the effectiveness of their anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of their staff to nervous or suffering patients. To justify the recommendation, the arguer cites the statistics that men tend to faint three more times than women while visiting the dentist. In addition, the arguer reasons that men are more likely to be distressed about having dental work done than women are. A careful examination of this recommendation will  reveal how groundless it is

To begin with, the argument depends on an unproven survey that indicates three times more men than women faint while visiting the dentist. First, we are not informed how many people responded to the survey. May be only less than ten people took part in the survey, thus this survey can not stand for all of the people. Second, we are not informed about when the survey was conducted. If the survey were conducted 5 years ago or even earlier, it can not account for the current tendency. Without more information about the survey, the author can not convince me that men faint more times visiting the dentist compared with women.

Secondly, the author unfairly assumes that men are more likely to be distressed about having dental work done than women are. Even if the survey can indicate men faint more times than women while visiting the dentist, there might be other factors that led to it. For example, may be when deal with women, dentists tend to be more softness than deal with men. And may be the chemical medicine used by dentists can lead men more tend to faint than women

Even if I concede that men are more likely to be distressed about having dental work done than women are, the arguer falsely assumes that the dentists who advertise to attract patients should aim at the male consumer and emphasize both the effectiveness of their anesthetic techniques and the sensitivity of their staff to nervous and suffering patients. However, the author provides little evidence to support his recommendation. It is possible that, for instance public people do not know that men are more likely to be distressed about having dental work done than women are. And it is also possible that men think it is a shame to go to the dentists whenadvertise so.

In summary, the auger provides an incomplete analysis of the problem. Hence, the solution is questionable. To better support the argument, the arguer should provide more information about the survey, and should provide a study about effect of advertising such advertisement.
