题目:ARGUMENT180 - The following is a recommendation from the personnel director to the president of Acme Publishing Company.

"Many other companies have recently stated that having their employees take the Easy Read Speed-Reading Course has greatly improved productivity. One graduate of the course was able to read a five-hundred-page report in only two hours; another graduate rose from an assistant manager to vice president of the company in under a year. Obviously, the faster you can read, the more information you can absorb in a single workday. Moreover, Easy Read costs only $500 per employee-a small price to pay when you consider the benefits to Acme. Included in this fee is a three-week seminar in Spruce City and a lifelong subscription to the Easy Read newsletter. Clearly, Acme would benefit greatly by requiring all of our employees to take the Easy Read course."

In the recommendation, the author asserts that Acme publishing should send their staffs to the Easy Read Speed-Reading Course. To support his recommendation, the author cites the example that one graduate was able to read a lot report in a short time while another one rose from an assistant manager to vice president of company less than a year. In addition, the author assumes that reading fast can help to catch more information. Finally the author assumes that take this course could benefit the company. A carefully examination of the argument would reveal how groundless it is.

To begin with, the author falsely assumes that take the Easy Read Speed-Reading Course would improve the staff's productive. In order to substantiate the assumption, the author cites the examples of the two graduate s. Firstly, the mere fact that the two graduates improved so much does not necessarily indicate that all the other people who took such course would improve greatly. Secondly, the author fails to rule out other possible explanations of the improvement of the two staff. For instance, may be the former graduate is good at reading before the course and the improvement of the later one is due to his skilled professional ability. Unless the author can rule out these possibilities, the author can not convince me that the course could improve the productive.
Further more, the author unfairly assumes that the faster one could read the more information one could catch. Although it is possible, however, the author provides no evidence to substantiate the assumption. It is possible that after that speed of reading, the graduate could remember nothing or could not understand it. And a second read of the content should be needed; hence the fast reading may not lead to catch more information. Since the author fails to provide no evidence to account for this possibility, he or she can not convince me the assumption that fast reading result in catching more information. Let alone the conclusion that fast reading could improve the productive.
Last but not least, even if I concede the foregoing assumptions come to reality, the author provides no evidence to substantiate that conclusion that take such course would lead to the improve the company’s profits. As we all know, the profits is decides by both cost and income. Taking the course would increase the company’s cost, while there is no evidence that it would increase the revenue. It is natural to wonder whether the company’s profits could increase. Without taking such factors into consideration, the author can not convince me that conclusion that taking the course would result in improving company’s profits.

In sum, the argument, while seems well-supported at first, has some flaws as discussed above. Hence, it is unacceptable and not persuasive as it stands. To better bolster the argument the author should set a study whether the course could improve the reading speed, and whether the fast reading speed could result in increase the productive.

In the recommendation, the author asserts that Acme publishing should send their all staffs to the Easy Read Speed-Reading Course. To support his recommendation, the author cites the example that one graduate was able to read a lot report in a short time while another one rose from an assistant manager to vice president of company less than a year. In addition, the author assumes that reading fast can help to catch more information. Finally the author assumes that take this course for all labors could benefit the company. A carefully examination of the argument would reveal how groundless it is.

To begin with, the author falsely assumes that take the Easy Read Speed-Reading Course would improve the staff's productive. In order to substantiate the assumption, the author cites the examples of the two graduates.(略显啰嗦,其实后面的firstlysecondly已经够了) Firstly, the mere fact that the two graduates improved so much does not necessarily indicate that all the other people who took such course would improve greatly. Secondly, the author fails to rule out other possible explanations of the improvement of the two staff. For instance, may be the former graduate is good at reading before the course and the improvement of the later one is due to his skilled professional ability. Unless the author can rule out these possibilities, the author cannot convince me that the course could improve the productive.

Furthermore, the author unfairly assumes that the faster one could read the more information one could catch. Although it is possible, however, the author provides no evidence to substantiate the assumption.(还是一样的问题,有些啰嗦,这句没必要写) It is possible that after that speed of reading, the graduate could remember nothing or could not understand it. And a second read of the content should be needed; hence the fast reading may not lead to catch more information. Since the author fails to provide no evidence to account for this possibility, he or she can not convince me the assumption that fast reading result in catching more information. Let alone the conclusion that fast reading could improve the productive.(这两句与前面的hence一句意思没什么区别,完全可以略去)

Without taking such factors into consideration, the author cannot convince me that conclusion that taking the course would result in improving company’s profits.(可以攻击一下不一定所有人都去,或者攻击一下别的公司easy reading课程有用,我们公司不一定有用,个人觉得这两点比盈利更重要)

In sum, the argument, while seems well-supported at first, has some flaws as discussed above. Hence, it is unacceptable and not persuasive as it stands. To better bolster the argument the author should set a study whether the course could improve the reading speed, and whether the fast reading speed could result in increase the productive.(这句话有些变扭,再改改)

语句要再改改,有些话完全没必要写,重复了;
