题目：ISSUE47 - "Society does not place enough emphasis on the intellect-that is, on reasoning and other cognitive skills."



The speaker alleges that society should pay more emphasis on the intellect such as reasoning and other cognitive skills. Admittedly, I agree with the speaker with reserve that the intellect is important for us in construct our society. However, we should not ignore the importance of the non-intellect.

“Mathematics wins the world" a mathematic professor at Princeton University said. As we all know, math is the king of the science and is the abstract of the reasoning and cognitive skills, which is like the piano in the music. We could see from that how important the reasoning and cognitive skills are. Intellect may be the most significant distinct between human beings and rude animals. Wolves are good at hunting, for they use method draw from the long-term hunting experience called wolf tactics which concentrates sever wolves to attack an animal or a group of animal. We do not know whether they establish the tactics before attacking, whether they propose the sudden event by the light of nature. But, we know that the similar tactics used by Nazi Germen utilized the difficult reasoning, which means use several submarines to attack a group of ships. In the war college, these captains are taught the careful tactics of the "group of wolf". They inferred all kinds of responses of the ships towards attack, and concluded how to deal with each situation. As discussed above, we can draw the conclusion that intellect is crucial to the society.

However, on the other hand, we can not overlook the effect of the non-intellect. In our nature characters, non-intellect is indispensable. There is a principle that when our human beings recognize things, we almost first understand the phenomenon of them or to say use our emotion to feel the things. After we have accumulated enough reorganization, we use our intellect to form them into abstract concepts such as theories. In another word, intellect is based on the emotion and can not exist without the help of emotion.
To sum up, there is no doubt intellect is important for the society. Nevertheless we can not neglect the effect of the emotion.
