Some movies are serious, designed to make the audience think. Other movies
are designed primarily to amuse and entertain. Which type of movie do you
prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer(03/23/07).

Movies has been the most widely enjoyed form of entertainment. People, young and old, male and female, all prefer sitting in a sofa and spending a comfortable afternoon in cinemas. Some movies are fun and entertaining, while some are profound and invoke deep consideration. As far as I am concerned, those movies, products of a thoughful observer, appeal to me more than the other kind.

The courage of characters in those profound films always sheds light on the situation we are up to, whether by means of filling us with more kindness to the life, or by showing us another aspect of the difficulty. A sound example will be “the persuit of happiness”, which is adapted from a real black man struggling to persuie his dream as a stockbroker and the happiness of his dear son. His determination moves me to tears, so does his love for his son in every little details. I recall my father who dovoted himself in cultivating me as a well- rounded person. And, I credit my today’s success to his help and love.

Some films, reflecting the history or the current social situation, often leave us pondering the issues we ignore. “gone with the wind” extols the unfailing courage to face adversity; “the pearl harbour” condemns the cruelty of war and lauds the power of love; “AL”(人工智能) reveals the conflit between man and man-made intelligent robots. These films, whether shot as realistic documentaries or science fictions, call for our consideraion of war and peace, human and environment, and the development of technology.


In addition, films that make us think also offer us good topics between friends and families, which, in my view, encourages understanding and innovation. As we are different people and our experiences are diversified, we may have quite opposite opiniions of the problems discussed in one flm. Exchaging ideas and inviting other people’s views are always a pleasure for me.

In conclusion,while entertaining moves may make us laugh and help us escape from the reality, Ｉprefer films that make us think. Because they help us regain courage, consider our responsibilities to the world, and give my friends and I lots of topics.
