Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
It’s more important for a teacher try to help students to gain confidence than to teach them specific knowledge. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.(03/10/07)

Some people who hold the viewpoint that school education aims to impart specific knowledge to students rather than to shape students’ personality claim that students stay longer at home and in society where students learn to gain confidence, in my opinion, teachers are supposed to spend more time in helping students to gain confidence rather than only improving their grade in class.

Initially, confidence plays an indispensable role in enabling students to broaden their knowledge. Knowledge is infinite and one won’t master all the knowledge all over the world in his life. Even a teacher, he is also only specialized in some specific fields which determines that he could only make students familiar with limit subjects such as anthropology, history, physics, chemistry, literature, art, geology, astronomy and so on. In other words, teachers just guide students to recognize one specific subject. Therefore, only students equipped with correct study method could master more knowledge since they are eligible to learn whenever they want. Correspondently, teachers are responsible to help students confident at learning by themselves instead of tedious instillation of professional sermon.

An additional factor involves the recognition that confident students are inclined to obtain much more attainment than mere knowledgable students. Yes, you may be an excellent student who are studying in a famous university and you are expected to pursue a job in a well-known company. Then, what about next? What will you do in such a competitive workplace? You know that each worker around you are all considerate strong and you are confronted competition with them. At this moment, confidence help you succeed. Everyone is equivalent in intelligence quotation and what you need to do is just perseverance and to believe that you will win the game finally. On the other hand, a doleful student won’t succeed even if he has a broader wide of knowledge.

Lending more credence to my point is that students who get confidence at school will bear burden easily when they become adults. As students go to university, they will leave home and live in dormitory. So, they will spend more time with their teachers and classmates. Problems in study and life may make them confused and they are pliable to get depressed in such a circumstance. If they can’t deal with these problems well, they will lose heart. Over and over again, they will get lost. Correspondently, I believe teachers should take students’ emotion at first and help them establish positive attitude toward life. Thus, students won’t be panic when they face terrible situations.

In conclusion, to teachers, helping students obtain confidence is more important than merely teaching them specific knowledge in the long run cause confidence benifts students to study by themselves, to gain achievement and to learn deal with plight.

Problems in study and life may make them confused(confuse them) and they are pliable to get depressed(face depression 不会坚韧的去沮丧吧) in such a circumstance. If they can’t deal with these problems well, they will lose heart. Over and over again, they will get lost. Correspondently, I believe teachers should take students’ emotion at first and help them establish positive attitude toward life. Thus, students won’t be panic when they face terrible situations.(感觉这一段的句子都是人物作主语,换几个吧~)

In conclusion, to teachers, helping students obtain confidence is more important than merely teaching them specific knowledge in the long run cause confidence benefits students to study by themselves, to gain achievement(achievements 多一点好~) and to learn to deal with plight.
