173 The following is a memorandum issued by the publisher of a newsmagazine, Newsbeat, in the country of Dinn.
'Our poorest-selling magazine issues over the past three years were those that featured international news stories on their front covers. Over the same period, competing news-magazines have significantly decreased the number of cover stories that they devote to international news. Moreover, the cost of maintaining our foreign bureaus to report on international news is increasing. Therefore, we should decrease our emphasis on international news and refrain from displaying such stories on our magazine covers.'
The arguer got a conclusion that they should reduce their emphasis on international news and refrain from showing such stories on their magazine covers. He attributed the conclusion into three reasons which are poorest-selling of the international news covers, the experience of competing news-magazines and increasing cost of maintaining foreign bureaus. Apparently, three causes sound like sufficient to convince us, but carefully analyzing three of them, no one can be grounded and warranted.
First of all, the arguer hadn’t provided the enough persuasive evidence to demonstrate what’s and how is the poorest selling, say nothing of trend of selling in these three years. If arguer claimed that the amount of selling international news magazines is poorest, it is possible to estimate the selling condition of the recently one or two years is better and better. Provided the statement above is true more or less, whether the poor circumstance is affected by the extraneous factors such as the development of society and economic. If the economic in the whole world is in degression, the income people got decreases, the expenditure people cost on other things also should decline, therefore, people who want to buy the international news magazine become less. Furthermore, the reason the arguer claimed is based on an assumption that all the people who buy their international news magazine are attracted by their covers. Either, the arguer not showed us his testimony about it.
In the second place, the arguer didn’t state the reason why the competitor abnegates their international news magazine. There is no evidence to show their status is the same as their competitor. We can be fully possible to believe that the competitor changed their strategy into other business types as well as they lack of fund to sustain their international news magazine’s department. It is fully obscure to know whether the running condition of the competitor become better. Under such circumstance, the arguer imprudently generalizing the result indeed makes us be replete with doubt. Besides, neither we unfamiliar with their competitor is their main rival or not. If it is true, they can domain rapidly in the market field their competitor left. No one can deny admitting it is good chance the amount of selling international news magazine increases rapidly.

Last but not as least, it is hard to know whether cost of the whole magazine field aggrandizes. If the expenditure of the competitors is bigger Newsbeat, in the long term, the Newsbeat has better advantages over them. With the price of petroleum in the world going up, the human resource, facilities, transportation, accommodations also gain their price. It is warranted to predict the expense that international news magazine bureaus paid increases. Conceding that the economic and societal environment is invariable, the arguer failed to convince us that if the profit bureaus made greatly surpasses the cost or not. Provided the conditions above can’t be confirmed, the reputation of Newsbeat is well known in last three years, in the long run, they can enjoy a large amount of selling magazines while share good benefit.
All in all, only the arguer provides with plentiful and convinced testimony to oppose the argument I put forward, can we fundamentally believe the conclusion he got. Without that, it is unreasonable to decrease their emphasis on the international news refrain from showing such stories on their magazine covers. Persisting in doing that may lead to a great deal loss for the Newsbeat who is reluctant to accept.
