The author asserts that the function of science is to reassure while the purpose of art is to upset, and that there lies the value of each. I disagree with the opinion of the author about the function of each and what their value lies in. In my view, the function of science as well as art is both to assurance and to upset, and there lies the value of each.

For science, it authentically plays an important in reassuring. For example, in ancients, people did not truly understand the reason of solar eclipse and lunar eclipse, which caused that people considered it as a sign of doomsday; however, with the development of science and technology, scientists reveals the principles of these phenomenon, resulting in
dispelling the fear, which is caused by lacking of scientific knowledge, of people. In short, with the development of science, it is science that makes human beings understand the principles of the world better and then reassure us.

On the other hand, in some cases, science can upset our human beings.
For example, the technology of genetic engineering developed so fast as a result of the development of biological science. As a result, the technology of clone brings about debate of ethic, and causes ethical dilemma which upsets mankind. In this circumstance, the function of science in upsetting us appears. Considering the dual functions of science，the value of science lies in not only the function of reassuring but also the function of upsetting.

For art, like science, it also has its dual effects in influencing mankind. Firstly, art is the product of the artist's passion of internal world and manifests the impulse of the artist's unique spirits. In some cases, art upsets us. For example, Picasso abstract pictures show the condemnation and anger of his internal world. This kind of personal internal world's expression often is too difficult for general person to understand and as a result, upsets us.

On the other hand, not all art can upset us. In some cases, art has a significant role in reassuring the spirits of us. For example, the sunflower painted by Van Gogh, conveys a feeling of loving life to us, which encourages and reassure us rather than upset us. Another example, Madonna, made by Raphael, represents a young and elegant mother full of maternity and blessedness and provides later generations a sense of great of maternity and blessedness of life. In short, art, in some cases, help reassure us. So, the value of art lies in not only upsetting us but also reassuring us.

In sum，it is inappropriate to assert that the function of science is only to reassure us and art is to upset us. The functions of both science and art have their dual effects. What function of science or art plays needs a case-by-case analysis. As a result, both of their value lies in these dual effects of the function rather that a specific function.

总体来说，文章的思路还是很清晰的，先说了科学的功能，再说艺术，我记得好像你是限时写出来的，已经很不错了，赞一个！但是，有一个问题就是感觉议论说理的成分比较少，基本上都是一个主题句，后面就举例子，这样结构显得比较单一和模板化，还有用词和句式应该要多样化一点，如果目标是六分的话，哈哈。
