In this argument, the author contends that the C Note jazz club expected to be open in Monroe will be definitely a lucrative investment. And three information were cited to support his conclusion. Firstly, the nearest jazz club is 65 miles away. Secondly, jazz is very popular in Monroe because the jazz festival has attracted 100000 people, and some famous jazz musicians are in Monroe, additionally, the radio program 'Jazz Nightly' is the most popular item there. Thirdly, a country survey presents that the representative amateur of jazz spends about $1000 every year on jazz entertainment. However, though the author shows several information related to jazz, this argument falls to convince due to several fallacies in logic and reasoning thinking.
To begin with, the assumed fact that the nearest jazz club is so far away from expected location of the C Note club seems help the new bar to avoid from the fierce competition, nevertheless, to forward on this cue of aspect of business competition, no more information is posted about how many new club that is in prospective to be found near the location of C Note. What's more, even in 65 miles only existing C Note and the other one, the fans who are full of enthusiasm about jazz will not hesitate to travel far to the other one instead of C Note, if C Note worse equipped can not provide good level of music and the environment for enjoying. Without analyzing the two possibilities above, the argument is unpersuasive as it stands.
Further more, to inspect into the information showed by the author to prove that jazz is that popular, critical flaws will be also found. Firstly, No details is showed about how many people are local in Monroe in the 100000 attended the jazz festival, maybe most of these persons are very far away and only come to the festival once every year. In addition, it is possible that the famous musicians choose to live in Monroe just because the great living environment there but not the matter of the popularity of jazz. What' more, maybe other program is worse than the 'Jazz Nightly', so the program ranked highly in Monroe, yet not because the Jazz there is that popular. Even to presume that jazz is significantly popular in Monroe, no direct evidence could be used in this argument to prove that a jazz music club in Monroe would be tremendously profitable enterprise. It depends on many other factors such as the consuming habit and level, and the management of the new club.
Finally, the nationwide statistics obviously cannot represent the situation of Monroe. For example, surprisely but the statistics of fact,
average 2 cars are owned by every Chinese individual ,however, in some part such as the Northwest of China, the figure of cars owned by people only touch 01 . So refer to the argument, suffering from the lack of essential direct evidence, the application for business loan by the author is seriously weakened.
To sum up, a careful inspection of the study reveals several problems with the editorial’s argument.
To strengthen the application, strict analysis of business statistics should be done and direct evidence have to be shown to prove that the C Note will make profits. In addition, other risk of business in the future as well as the reply measures should be considered, in order to be persuasive enough to get the loan. |
