issue 31 Money spent on research is almost always a good investment, even when the results of that research are controversial.
这个时代要求社会各方面科技的进步，研究就成了主要的生产力。谈到花在研究上的资金的事情，个人有个人的看法。诚然有些研究成果是有争议的，但是这种争议的危害对象是谁，是社会和大部分人，还是小部分人，事实上，大部分花在研究上的资金都是good investment。而对于花在对社会产生危害的研究上就not good investment.

首先，投资大部分的研究都是很好的投资，比如在医疗研究上的投资：药物的研究和成果，使得人们live longer。在粮食种植方面的研究的投资：产量加大，使得更多的人们从starve中解脱。等等。

其次，一些所谓有争议的研究，如果只利用它对人类和社会有利的一面，同样会给社会带来益处。比如非常有争议克隆技术的研究，如果应用于人类疾病的治疗如克隆器官或者改变不良基因治疗如由基因问题而产生的疾病的人，这无疑是人类的巨大福音。而核武器的发展也使得人类不能爆发像一战二战那样世界性的战争，这无疑也是核武器对社会有利的一面。

但是，如果投资于对社会或大部分人没有一点好处的研究的话，那无疑是not good investment而且是不理智的。比如假钞技术的研究，这种技术研究的越是精湛就越对社会有害，会造成货币膨胀，经济动荡，危害了人民和社会的财产利益。这种投资就是不应当的。

In sum, 投资在大部分的研究上都是一种不错的投资，但对于极少部分的技术研究，却不是好投资。
I fundamentally agree that our society should spend money on research, especially in this era of rapid society and technology change, but when it comes to the results of the research which is controversial, we should be cautions to make investment depending on the goal of research.

Admittly, research is great investion contrasting other investions. For example, with money spending on the researches in biomedical, it is wonderful investion. Not only may we be able to cure many diseases by making all kinds of medicine and we can even treat the cogenital diseases through gene therapies, but also this investment is low cost and much more profit only if it can incresase health of human’s body. Furthermore, the technologies already change our life. It is Watt who make our dreams of steamer come true; it is Newton who make clear of our motion rule; it is Edison who invent bulb that bring our world brightness.

Although, it is true that costing money on researchs has tremendous positive effects, negative effects are still coexit. As for the “controversial” result of research, for example, the technology of clone on the one hand applies to cure about patients through reproducting the other organs, and changes the stucture of gene in order to cure the patients who are ill when they are given birth; on the other hand, this technology could copy the same person with original one, which obey our moral and ethic. If we invest only in technology of clone organ and changing the frame of gene ,not human body, the investion of techonlogy of clone would be good for investors or humans.

However, some research is no benefits for human being and our society at all. As for these technology, I suggest that we should not to invest it. For instance, the technology of fade money is harmful for our society’s economy and our nation’s stabilization, because of the better technology of forged note, the worse harm for us. It could make our society be shaky and unstable, and inflate the money so that amount of money do not worth by itself value. What’s more, there are still huge social problems, such as violence, terrorists, famine and so on, also be spent money to solve them.

In sum, even though most of investion are worth spending more money since we advance our knowledge and have better life through research, some controversial result of research are also benefit to us which should be selectively invest. So we should accept the essence, goes the dregs, expand the benefit of these technology, and reduce their disadvantage. Moreover, the pressing social problems also require money and we should strike balance in how to allocate the money.
