"The study of history places too much emphasis on individuals. The most significant events and trends in history were made possible not by the famous few, but by groups of people whose identities have long been forgotten."
1. 需要众人
2. 个人的重要性talent and capability that they managed to consistently remain
3. 个人的重要性play a pivotal role
Should the study of history not place much emphasis on individuals, as the author alleges? The author claim so, for the reason that the most significant events and trends in history were made by groups of people whose identities have long been forgotten. In a sense, I tend to concede that another people are all indispensable parts in the most significant events and trends. However, I do not completely side with this statement because the author claims the view by overlooking the crucial rule of another issue and unfairly give them a second priority. In my point of view, the famous individuals are needed more attentions.
First of all, the great Mathematician and physicist ?Isaac Newton, even said “if I have seen further than certain other men it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants.” Maybe the giants mean the people whose identities have long been forgotten and he would not have been unable to succeed in his daring endeavours without the support and active participation of their fellow members. The efforts of one man are not sufficient to cause a paradigm shift in the well-being of humanity. It is the cumulative efforts of all the numbers of groups that have sparked revolutions. For instance, in Europe during the medieval period, feudalism was rife. Land was owned by a few superior lords who forced common people to work as bonded labor. Several renaissance painters like Michaelangelo, Rembrandt, Rafael, Donatello and Leonardo da Vinci depicted the hardships of common people through their paintings. Yet, as of today, only Leonardo da Vinci and Michaelangelo are world renowned. Hence, it is unfair to give all the credit to the famous few.
Second, although the most significant events in history were made possible groups of people, history immortalizes the memories of a few individuals because it is their talent and capability that they managed to consistently remain. To illustrate this point clearly, we can see an example as fellow. Winston Churchill was a very competent prime minister whose speeches gave courage to an entire nation. Some one thinks Britain would have been unable to defend itself without the sacrifices of the soldiers on the battle field. Yet, in the certain time--World WarⅡ—no one can lead Britainic people to keep and win the war finally as Winston Churchill. The another example is that painters Michaelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci depicted are world renowned because they have certain talent and their production are better than other’s. When Leonardo da Vinci was young, his father was frightened by a shield which he printed on. His father believed his son has printing talent so that he sent him to learn how to print with famous printer at that time. Thus the world had a great printer and he brings us some famous and world-shaking productions such as .
In addition, even the most significant events and trends in history were made by groups of people, but it is not unfair to deny that famous individuals play a pivotal role. We can not overlook the great achievements of the famous scientists, musician, and etc. Beethoven, the German Composer, began to lose his hearing in 1801 and was entirely deaf by 1918. He can not be helped from another people in the music. However, this obstacle could not keep him from becoming one of the most famous and prolific composers in art history. His music, including 9 symphonies, 5 piano concertos, several senates and so on, forms a transition from classical to romantic composition. He pays out more endeavor than common people. Therefore, it is a good example for us.
To sum up, this is no fixed standard to judge the significance of the famous few and groups of people for the most significant events and trends in history. Due to analysis and reasons mentioned with each other to generate an integrated whole and to become more persuasive than any signal one of them, and we may safely arrive at the conclusion that they all contribute directly to the development of society and the famous individuals should be needed more attentions.
