ARGUMENT130.The following appeared in the annual report of a chain of stores that sell supplies for do-it-yourself home improvements.

"Current reports indicate that sales of new homes nationwide declined by 9 percent during the past year, while sales of existing homes increased by 16 percent. Thus we can expect that the percentage of homeowners who will be making repairs or improvements to their homes will also increase. In addition, people who buy existing homes will have more money left over after the purchase to spend on home improvements. Finally, people who buy existing homes are more likely to make improvements themselves, as opposed to paying someone else. These factors combined indicate we can expect an increasing demand for products in all our stores nationwide, thus increasing our profits in the coming year."

I have to say that the author of this annual report is a little naive and superficial of the real situation nationwide. Let me explain as some logical reasons as followed:

Firstly, although the sales of new homes nationwide declined by 9 percent while the sales of the existing homes increased by 16 percent, how do we conclude the result that the percentage of homeoweners to repair and improve their houses are necessary increase? The most score factor is that we must figure out the aims of those home exchangers. What's their goals? Investment? living ?or something else? The confusion of the reason cannot direct cause the next conclusion is the first logical mistake.

Secondly, do the people who buy the existing homes are sure have more money left after their purchase?It is not the sure, of course. And what's more, the factual situation are always the opposite. Most reasons people bought the exising homes are not to save money for repair or improve their buyings but to save money for their doubts. the real reason is they do not have enough money to offer the new houses. To these reasons, it is so absurb to look forward to lift the percent by these people and their purchase behavior.

Finally, another important reason people purchase the existing homes is that they do not have enough time to improve or repair. These situations are so common in freshmen to the society or a new-comer of one place. living is the most reason but not repairment or improvement. Especially these people are not rich enough to afford these fees.

According to thoes factors above, we can conlude that the annual conclusion in that report are full of mistakes. The author are not consider the overall possibilities and possible situations thus lead a unadvisable result.

I have to say that the author of this annual report is a little naive and superficial(XDF的老师讲过最好不要用这类词汇)of the real situation nationwide. Let me explain as some logical reasons as followed:
