Tradition and modernization are incompatible. One must choose between them.

Are tradition and modernization incompatible as the speaker claims? Although in this rapidly developing society, there are many traditions changed, from my angle, I have to say that considering the continuance of the history and the development of traditions into modernization, they are compatible, sometimes even the same.

Admittedly, with the improvement of the society, traditions have been altered a lot. People nowadays, especially the youths, are proud of their creativity, disobeying the traditional habits and customs, which has changed our world a lot. For instance, in China, respecting teachers and following the teacher's words were considered the fundamental virtue of the students, regardless of the teacher's performance. However, these days, students are encouraged to question the teachers to grow their critical thinking, which is also proposed by the teachers. Moreover, the society is advancing, making many old thoughts and customs inappropriate for today, such as the racial discrimination, the loyalty to the emperor, and the identification of women and so on. These changes make our society more developed and democratic, which are the sign of the improvement of the world.

However, although there are many things changed, we cannot allege that the traditions are incompatible or even contrary to the modern world. First of all, there are many traditions not changed at all in our society, especially some habits and minds. For supporting example, one needs to look no further than our daily lives. Every American spends her/his Thanksgiving Day with her/his family, eating turkey with all the members. Such festival has lasted for hundreds of years, but now, it is still there, remaining unchanged. Likewise, in China, the Spring Festival is the traditional ceremony of the Chinese people for thousands of year, but it remains its original appearance and may not change in the future. Also, in the religious field, tradition is unlikely to change. No Muslim eats pork even though the fast development in the science recommends diets without inclination. Similarly, the Christians will do dinner prey, which has existed for hundreds of years.

Secondly, even some of the new trends of our society, which we call "modernization", are originated from the tradition, developing the tradition and forming their own style. Popular music, for example, including R&B, rock and roll, Latin style, is representative. These kinds of music are all from the traditional music, which have inherited generation to generation. R&B, for instance, was first created by the blacks in America thousands of years ago. The modern musicians, singers and composers learn from their melodies and rhythm, and form the music style prevalent all over the world. All the same, there are many other fields that are influenced or learn form the past or the traditions, which lends inspirations and illuminations to the development of them. Consider, for example, without the classical mechanics, can Einstein discover the Relativity? Without the contribution of Picasso in cubism, where can the nowadays artists' inspirations come from? Thus, in all the fields of our society, for the history is continuous, the modernization must learn from the tradition, at least they can find their pathway to success in the inquiry of the tradition.

All in all there are many changes in virtue of the developments of the contemporary society; however, many traditions remain, getting along with the modernization. What is more, inheriting from the past, new trends gain their inspiration and impetus from the tradition, which indicates the cooperation and adaptation of the tradition to the modernization rather than incompatibility or combat.
