College students—and people in general—prefer to follow directions rather than make their own decisions. Therefore, colleges should eliminate as many choices as possible in order to offer students clear direction

The speaker states that college should eliminate as many choices as possible which will give students clear directions because college students --just like most people ---prefer to follow directions rather than make their own decisions. I can not agree with the speaker in some aspect to this question.

First, the college students follow directions in most time which can not prove that college students prefer to follow directions rather than make their own decisions. In fact, college students like to make their decisions in most of situations, but they must follow the directions of school in order to finish their study sucessfully. For instance, students usually have not enough experience and enough knowledge to decide which method will help them to learn a lecture more effeciently, so they will follow the method of professor in order to learn well . In many case, students always eager to decide themselves if they can do this without limits. For Instance, they like choose some lecture which interest them, and make decisions about their daily life freely. We really can not claim that college students do not prefer to make decision themselves whereas like following the directions of college’s.

Second, the claim that college should eliminate as many choices as possible may can offer some students clear direction in some situation, but it will not benefit most students who want to make choices. People always like freedom and choices .The deprivation of freedom to make decision by themselves will cause many dissatisfaction .they may think the college deprives their many choices to get some experience different to others and to learn more knowledge. For instance, if school eliminate the choices of some lecture, then many student will feel learn totally the same course will do ham to their improvement of creative ability and other ability.Furthermore ,It is also the responsibility of college to help students to be more independent.

We must not deny that The elimination some choices in order to offer a more clear direction will benefit them very much .The experience ,knowledge and time of students is limited ,and sometimes it is the responsibility of college to help them make some decisions. But this elimination can not do ham to the free of college student; otherwise they may not follow happily.

To sum up, college should respect the freedom of students and should not eliminate the choices of students at will because students will like to make their decisions if they can do this efficiently. The elimination of choices can be making if college can help student to make decisions which can not be made well and easily by students.
