Plainsville merchants report that sales of running shoes and exercise clothing are at all-time highs. The local health club has more members than ever, and the weight training and aerobics classes are always full. Finally, Plainsville's schoolchildren represent a new generation of potential customers: these schoolchildren are required to participate in a fitness-for-life program, which emphasizes the benefits of regular exercise at an early age.
Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions of the argument. Be sure to explain how the argument depends on these assumptions and what the implications are for the argument if the assumptions prove unwarranted.

Claim: Nature's Way's new franchise should prove to be very successful

Evidence 01
Nature's Way franchises tend to be most profitable in areas where residents lead healthy lives, and clearly Plainsville is such an area.
Evidence 02
Plainsville merchants report that sales of running shoes and exercise clothing are at all-time highs. The local health club has more members than ever, and the weight training and aerobics classes are always full.

Finally, Plainsville's schoolchildren represent a new generation of potential customers: these schoolchildren are required to participate in a fitness-for-life program, which emphasizes the benefits of regular exercise at an early age.

The speaker in the above claim is confident about the success of a new Nature's Way franchise that will be open in the town of Plainsville. However, such a conclusion is based on the author's assumption that a successful business is tight closely with a healthy community; that the increasing body builders will all buy their equipment in the new Nature's Way; and that the new Nature's Way can provide what the kids need for them. Such assumptions may weaken the validness of the conculsion.

The first Assumption here is that the author believes that a successful business is tight closely with a healthy community. NW在人们崇尚健康生活的地方成功，不代表是因为他们的健康生活，NW才成功的。有可能因为那些地方的人消费水平比较高，或者因为NW在那些地方没竞争对手。这样一来，即使P这个地方大家生活健康，他们如果没有高消费水平无法afford或者这个地方已经有很多类似的商店，NW也不一定能成功。

That the increasing body builders will all buy their equipment in the new Nature's Way is another unstated assumption in the claim.尽管健身的人很多，但是很可能他们已经买好所需要的运动装备了，在那些report all time high 的merchants那里，如果这样的话，NW新开的店不会成功。
In the end, the author assumes that NW can benefit from the " fitness-for-life program " for schoolchildren taking it for granted that NW provides facilities for children. 小朋友参加的体育运动和成人很不一样，一旦NW只卖成人的补品，或者瑜伽器械，那么NW也不会从中获益。

个人点评：好像很勉强。。。一开始就想的是三个evidence逐个找assumption，写完感觉不是很科学，比如第三个有点写不出来。。。这样。。。

The statement predicts the success of Nature's Way in Plainsville, based on a key assumption that the success of this chain in other places can be duplicated anywhere residents live healthy lives. Besides, the prosperous health related business, such as running shoes and gyms are cited as proofs for that Plainsville is such a place. And a program for school children is assumed to cultivate potential customers. Actually, if any of these assumptions prove unwarranted, the argument will be greatly weakened.

First of all, it seems tempting to assume the success of a health-related store in a place where residents lead healthy lives, not mentioning the chain has successful experience in other places. However, there are a lot more factors which have great impacts on the business. For example, the location of the store, and whether the products match the preference of the residents. Potential compitition and ways of advertising are also very important.
首先，一家以健康产品为主营的商店在居民都注重健康的地方成功看似水到渠成，更不用说这家连锁店已经有了在其他地方的成功经验。但是还是有很多其他的因素会影响一家商店的经营。比如选址，产品是否适销对路，广告的效应以及潜在的竞争。

The prosperous business of gym classes and sports equipments is assumed as an indicator of health lifestyles, which, however, should cover various aspects of the life.
健身课程和运动装备的红火生意被当成健康生活方式的一个标志。但是健康的生活方式应该包含很多方面，例如健康的饮食，可能一个地方的人饮食偏向不健康的肉食，导致肥胖的人很多，从而使得需要减肥的人多，促进了健身课程的发展。另外，运动装备的热卖也未必是爱好运动的人多了，而可能是这种衣着方式成为了一种流行趋势，大家只是爱穿着运动鞋逛街而异。

Last but not least, the fitness-for-life program is important for children, but may not promise to cultivate potential customers. We are not sure how this program goes and what is the reaction of the children and their parents. There can be impacts from other sources which act negatively on health education. For instance, the smoking scene in films or fast food advertisement.
最后，F项目对学生的确很重要，但是未必能使学生变成未来的客户。我们不知道这个项目的进展如何，覆盖面怎样，家长和学生的反响如何。另外，学生的成长过程也会受到很多其他方面的影响，例如电影中的吸烟镜头，各种快餐广告等等。
