Application FAQ for 08fall admission of Lighting Research Center of Resselaer Polytechnic Institute:
1. What's Lighting Research Center?
A:The Lighting Research Center (LRC) is part of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. We are the leading university-based research center devoted to lighting and offer the world's premier graduate education in lighting.
2. What are the research areas of LRC?
A: There are 14 divisions of LRC, they are: Application & Design, Automotive & Street Lighting. Aviation Lighting, Controls. Daylighting, Energy & Environment, Health & Vision, LEDs, Outdoor Lighting, Product Testing, Residential Lighting, Security Lighting, Technologies, Technology Transfer.
3. What programs does LRC offer?
A: Master of Science in Lighting: Two-year, 48-credit program - the premier master's level degree in the field, immerses students in lighting research and application.
Master of Science in Architectural Sciences with a Concentration in Lighting: Nine-month, 30-credit program - ideal for those who have practical experience and want to advance their professional careers in lighting.
PhD in Lighting: Highest degree in lighting - students undertake concentrated research in a select area - for students who want to work with leading researchers or teach at the university level.
4. My education background is not lighting, can I still apply to LRC?
A: Yes, students we have enrolled come from various range of disciplines like Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, Architecture.
5. Is there any finacial aid for graduate students?
A: Yes, we offer TA and RA for both master and PhD students.
6. Is it easy for students from LRC to find a good job?
A: Most of our graduate students went to GE after their graduation.
