Do people really need to focus on the results of scholars and researchers rather than their methods when they pursue their own interests? According to the author, only through their interests can we learn the value, no matter how abnormal those interests are. From my perspective of view, as a social worker, one of the fundamental responsibilities is to contribute to contemporary society, so that results of their work probably should be concerned. In fact, we are surely able to learn much experience of aspiring interests from some effective scholars and researchers. However, any kind of unusual interests is benefit for the society; sometimes they have bad influence on social citizens.
First and foremost, no one can deny the fact that it is their job to gain some achievements from their study; otherwise their works may make no sense. Try to think, if every scholars and researchers in the world emphasize their interests in stead of their gains, than the society would be more fiction and less down- to- earth. As a result, the explosive development of our society must be substituted by a lag phase. Hence, a scholar or a researcher’s work itself has a great value. How can we look down upon the contribution to raise the position of interests?
Admittedly, when interests are not solitary and get achievements as a basic, the situation would be changed. As we all know that, parents always told us stories about how people can succeed by chasing their own hobby, like Copernicus. He always persists in his interest, regardless of others’ tease, and finally established the heliocentric theory when everyone else believed that our earth is the center of the cosmos. Interests can change into motive power and impel people to success. Maybe someone may give up their original target easily when they meet with troubles if they do not care so much about their hobbies.
Nevertheless, to insist on interests is not always good, especially when the interest is idiosyncratic. What if someone’s hobby is drugs, violence or alcohol? There is no denying the fact that negative interests usually have no profit for a person. So, only if someone’s interest is positive and afterwards get a result and do have contribution to the society, his/her interest would be going to have its value and be worthy to be learned and remembered.
In sum, though we may find that interest is extremely important during scholars and researchers’ study process, interests still not the factor we should focus on. People who only have interests cannot achieve success. The essential reason of scholars and researchers being so important in contemporary society is that they contribute many useful conclusions to the social development. People should pay close attention to what have they got and how can they made, not some useless stubborn interests. |
