Universities should accept equal numbers of male and femalestudents in every subject.

In present age, an increasing number of people appeal forequal rights of every respect of our life, regardless of age, sex and race. Therefore,the equal gender enrollment in each subject of universities also has beenproposed by some people. I personally think this policy is not really fair toall students.
The enrollment to one university should base on the merit ofstudents rather than their genders. Unlike the achievable merit, the gender isan attribution which is attached to one when he or she was born. If universitiestake gender into their admission criteria, some students who are struggling fortheir dreams may lose the chances to enter their dream schools because of theirsex, which is impossible for them to transform. The merit-based admissionsystem provides the impartial, measurable and comparable standards to variousbackground students, enabling them have equal opportunities to fulfill theirtarget.
Furthermore, accepting same numbers of different genderstudents for each subject is unrealistic. Apparently, male and female havedifferent preference in terms of academic area. For instance, male are moreinterested in science and engineering while female prefer to arts andhumanities. If universities insist to keep balance between both genders, theymay find that it is difficult to find enough suitable students for some certainsubjects to match the absurd "gender balance" policy.
In conclusion, I would like to reaffirm my position that Ihardly agree with the argument. Universities should keep the way which theyused to admit students rather than maintain a balance between male and femalestudents in every subject.
