Is " How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society"? "Do we actually never learn how to cultivate our children to bring about a better society"? As to the above assertions, which seem rather discouraging to me, at least, I partially disagree with the former one, and totally object the second part, since our society is a complex system which cannot decide by single crucial but not comprehensive factor and as far as I'm concerned, we have reap the benefit from an better improved society than ever before in our human history, although it is still do not live up our highest expectation.
To begin with, I concede that the way of socializing our children and younger generation is among a myriad of crucial top lists which can benefit our society. Every coin has two sides and the same is true when it comes to children socialization. In some cases, but not often, we all witness the disappointing effect of badly socialized children, which can sometimes lead them to an opposite extreme: they vandalize school property without feeling guilty; they hurt someone else purposely; Or even break laws and kill people not for the intention of justice but act against the whole society. However, in other more common cases, the young people's socialization indeed propel our society to a higher altitude rather than cause disturbance. For instance, more often than not, children learn to how to cooperate and collaborate with the rest of the team. A very touching example is one nine year old child, in Chinese Wenchuan earthquake, strive to aid three of his classmates out of danger. Knowing the potential great hazard of losing his life, he still act bravely and calmly like an adult running back to the relics repeatedly for saving the life of others. From this point of view, better socializing our children, attaching great emphasis on emotion and collaboration, to some extent, actually guide our society to a place where there are full of harmony and love.
Although admittedly I do not deny its critical role in bring our society to a better promising future, yet simply put, our society is a complex system which call for a neat ballance in which there is rationally methodological arrangement of every elements including culture, history, economics and science and so forth. As is often the case, without science, we can hardly imagine what our society would be: there is barely no bulb at night only candles flashing vague and gloomy beam; we may face panic every day since without advance medicine technology in the past, people might die of phnewmonium and virus infections at a early age, not mention longevity, and thus we may face a too much uncertainty that always disturb our pacific life. The invention of pannicililn, by Flemming, an Englishmen, save thousands of millions of people's life, curing pheumonia and badly infection caused by virus which were supposed to be incurable. Also, similarly, as the great impact from economics, we have to admit that it bring our more choices of good and services and dramatic enrich our life, whether in spirit or in material, whether mentally and physically. We are now overwhelmed with a wide variety of information and knowledge through mass media like the internet and TV, from propaganda of basic science and technology to publication of culter value, expanding its significant influence to every corner of the world. We deplore on hearing from the news from the distant California that our beloved popular singer Michael Jackson leave us forever. if it were not for the instant broadcast, we would know this news after several months or years or even never.
Even if socializing our children is not the only attribution to determine the future of our society, it does not necessarily follow that we could cultivate and raise our children randomly, with no accurate purpose, or even let them develop at their will. Instead, how to raise and educate our children is still with us and occupy our attention. In fact, it is not correct as the statement say that we have not yet learned how to raise our children who can help bring about a better society. Conversely, we are happy to see our society are becoming more harmony than ever before: after the two world war, our children, especially thoes who were born in 1950s, are taught to learn to deal with conflicts via pacific measures rather than provoke wars or battles; in scientific world, progress like genetic engineering and Mar exploration all comes from a team of
assiduous researchers and their responsible assistants, the time when one single person could invent a bulb has past and never come back; in business world, multitude of product initiation, like some software, the Windows series, originate from a group of elite who learn to coordinate with each others. From these prospects, we learn to raise our children better.
Certainly, there are some one may oppose my viewpoint and may demonstrate that delinquency rate are on the rise and more youngsters are go against this world. This can be proved by reviewing the history of North American school gunfire, which has threatened an increasing number of parents and students. But I still insist that this is an extreme case and the its negative results it brings out can not overshadow the greater achievement our children have accomplished. Consequently, only do we continue to dedicate to edifying and teach our children how to attain our focus through legal way can such violence incidents be prevented. |
