TOPIC:
ISSUE56 - "Governments should focus more on solving the immediate problems of today rather than trying to solve the anticipated problems of the future."

Is it reasonable that Governments should focus more on today's immediate problems instead of the anticipated problems of future? In my point of view, governments should not only focus on the immediate problems, but also the anticipated problems, both of which are needed to benefit our society.

Government's focus on the immediate problems of today is needed to benefit our society. It is no wonder that, in our society, there are many problems in short terms that are more direct to determine social conditions than others and it seems that if the government does not pay enough attention to these problems in time, these problems can ultimately result in serious harm to the society. Consider a government that fails to solve the problem of serious unemployment of today, it will eventually result in social violation and disorder serious depression of citizens and so forth or consider a government encountered with a economic problem makes a false economic decision to regulate the market, more serious social economic depression may be caused. A government's effectiveness to solve immediate problems of society often serves as a reflection of the government's ability and its prestige among its people.

Government needs also to keep in mind of the anticipated problems of the future. There is possibility that the anticipation may become reality and if the problems are not given enough attention in advance they will become more and more difficult to deal with later. History is replete with examples of this. During the civil war of china between Kuomintang and Communist Party of People's Republic of China, without thinking about the anticipated problems, Kuomintang blindly force the people in its ruling area to pay high taxes and its financial departments shortsightedly choose to print money to support its armies. Though these seem to serve to its rule as the army gets stronger, the final result is a total chaos of its economy system which they could not deal with any more. The defeat of the Kuomintang informs us that the anticipated problems of future should not be overlooked.

Admittedly, anticipated problems may be falsely anticipated,
and they do not really become problems, in other words, they are exaggerated, thus blindly focusing on these events may also be of no value.
A telling example is that during the cold war, the Soviet Union unduly anticipated the danger of the USA's Star-war project and wasted a lot of money on military research against it which has caused serious problems to its economy and society development. So governments need to anticipate as accurately as we can about future problems in case that governments' work do not go in vain.

To sum up,
government should deal with the immediate problems of today as well as the anticipated problems of tomorrow and these should base on that the anticipated problems are reasonably anticipated. If we are under the condition to choose one between them to focus more, we need to value carefully the significance of the today's immediate problems and the anticipated problems of future and make a final decision based on a case-by-case analysis.

both of which are needed to benefit our society我想which 在这里指代的是前面的problems吧?problems还能benefit? needed to be solved还差不多吧?
Government's focus on the immediate problems of today is needed to benefit our society.这句话的主语是Government's focus on the immediate problems of today,然而这些都要怎么needed啊?我觉得不太通顺,不知道究竟是什么意思。
Consider a government that fails to solve the problem of serious unemployment of today, it will eventually result in social violation and disorder serious depression of citizens and so forth or consider a government encountered with a economic problem makes a false economic decision to regulate the market, more serious social economic depression may be caused.
