Long time ago, many famous thinkers begun to encourage their students to bring a skepticism to what they learned, and challenge the authorities. Nowadays, I think it is still important for students to keep a skepticism attitude to what they are being passed on, for asking questions is the first step to the truth.
First of all, suspicion is necessary for students and people to approach to the truth and knowledge. As people commonly accepted that there is nothing that will be always absolutely right. Unless we keep asking why and keep researching, finally we may go closer to the truth. Long long time ago, the Earth was treated as the center of the universe. Because the famous scientist Aristotle claimed this conclusion, and also because the religion fully supported this conclusion, no one suspected it. But later, many scientists stood out to question this "fact", and used lots of method to provide that the Earth does not hold the central position of the universe. Now, it is a commonly known that the Earth just a part of the solar system, and without those scientists' spirit of skepticism and their effort, we could not access to the truth. Similarly, there are lots of facts which show us the spirit of skepticism often helps us to find the truth. Therefore, no matter how much the technology has accumulated for a long time, the students should still question what they are learning. With the help of questioning, we may have new discovery in some specific fields, as well we may improve some theories. Shortly, suspicion is often useful for people to approach to the truth, hence not only the students, people should bring skepticism to what they study.
Moreover, with suspension, students may question learn much more than just listen to and follow the texts and teachers. When the students keep asking why about what they learn, the best solution to their confusion is to study more, read more and ask more. With these, the students may have great chances to access to more materials than the texts. As well, while asking they may earn a chance to share ideas with professors, friends, and some experienced people, such communication actions could benefit the students a lot. Meanwhile, because the students are often those who have stepped to the society, have been polluted by the social profits, they are the people who dare to challenge the authorities. Because of this, from one side this will offer the students a chance to discuss some problems out of the texts, and force them the think more and collect more evidence to support their ideas. On the other hand, the challenge may also bring a chance to the authorities and society, offer them a chance to think over the problems, or offer them some new ideas that they haven't think before. Thus, if the students bring the skepticism to what they learned, it may not only help the students to enhance themselves, but also push the society and technology moving forward. In sum, often hold a skepticism spirit in your life, it may bring significant merit to all the people.
It is true that the skepticism spirit has lots of benefit to us, however we have to realize too much suspicion which without further self consideration and preview research, it may bring us obstacles. I think, to suspect what we are studying, we should do some work before we announce our ideas. Such as learn more from other materials, discuss the problems with others, and think twice about it and so on. With all this work help, skepticism spirit may do help us help the society.
On the whole, the skepticism is important for us, we should always hold such spirit and keep asking why. And with more self research, communication and thinking, we may learn more through suspect, and the whole society may benefit from the questions as well.
TOPIC: ARGUMENT85 - The following appeared in the letter to an editor of a Myrian newspaper.
"Under Governor Winslow's leadership over the past four years, Myria has enjoyed unprecedented prosperity. Average wage increases this year are higher than they have been at any time since the 1970's, the number of people who report being unemployed has decreased by 10 percent, and construction of new homes is up by one third. In contrast, over the past four years Governor Winslow's opponent, Mr. Homer, has been mayor of a city in which only a small number of new businesses have opened. If Myrians want another four years like the past four years, they should reelect Governor Winslow."

The author says reelect the Governor Winslow will be the best choice and this will promise another four-year-prosperity. In order to support the Governor Winslow, the author provides much evidence and achievement while Winslow was in charge. The suggestion sounds reasonable and logical, however I still find several defects of the argue.
First of all, the average wage increases this year are higher than ever before, this may not contribute all to the mayor. It has chances that this year the whole world appears a great increase of the economy, thus the Myria people may also enjoy such global economy prosperity. Moreover, there may be some special projects from the country, and coincidently the Myria is elected, this leads to the prosperity. In short, the author does not provide some detail policy of the Governor Winslow which contributes to the Myria's prosperity, hence I cannot sure the ability and prospect of the Winslow.
Moreover, the author says that the number of people who report being unemployed has decreased, I am a little confused about such fact. More usually, we concern the percentage of the people who are not employed out of all the people. But the author just provide an uncertain fact that the number of people who REPORT they are unemployed has decreased, and how about the people who are not willing to report? It has chances that when people lose their jobs, they may not willing to tell others the facts. Hence the author provides an uncertain fact which leads to lower the reliability of the author's conclusion. In sum, in order to support his conclusion, the author should show us more information and more precisely data and statistics.
Meanwhile, the author claims that the Winslow has done great jobs compared to the opponent Mr. Homer. We know that the economy is going up and down sometimes randomly, therefore we compare the achievement between Winslow and Homer seems a little unfair. Perhaps, during Mr. Homer’s charge, the Myrian faced a great challenge in economic area, and recently, the Myrian got some opportunities, therefore developed better than before. Thus, only compare the result, we can hardly find out the ability of the two mayors. Furthermore, the author concentrates our eyes on the economical field, we have no ideas about other fields, such as environment, education, medical care and so on. All these factors are also important to the civilians. Therefore, since the author fails to provide enough information, I cannot easily vote for Winslow.
On the whole, the proof of the author seems logical and convincible. But after more consideration, I find that it require more information and evidence to support the author. Therefore, if the author shows us more information about the ability of Winslow, I may still stand with the author.
