In the lecture,the profeesor argues that reducing the work day of a week with less payment will not benefit the profits of campanies or life qualities of employeess or economy of the country, a totally different opinion from what the reading states. He bases his arguments on three points.

First of all,the lecturer casts doubts on the fact that shorten workdays will increase compaines’ intresets.He insists that four-day workweek will force the companies to spend more money. Hiring more employees means that companies will add the training fees and average investment of medical welfares,since medical expenses on each emloyee will be the same no matter how long the workweek is.Moreover,more office space and computer equipments will be needed at the same time.In short,profits will not accrue because of the increasing costs.

Secondly,contary to statement from reading that the option of employess will help reduce the unemployment rates,the professor states that porbably no more occuptation will be availabe.It is entirely possible that companies will make employees work overtime to make up the difference.With higher expectation,workers will have to work the same amount workload of five-day week in four days.This situation will not create more job opportunities.

Finally,unlike what the passage says,the professor points out that free time dosen’t mean a better life to employees. Because companies may prefer the five-day employees, staff will face a risk of slashing qualities of lives,and those who choose a shorter workweek will lose their jobs fist during the economy recession or dropping the chance of promotion.

To sum,the professor doesn’t think that it is a good idea to give the opotion right for employees to decide their own work days,because it dosen’t promot the economy or profits of company,and it doesn’t improve the living condition of workers.
