If you're ready to take the plunge and completely change your hair color, the best bet is to go to a professional. But if you're feeling adventurous (and would like to save on salon fees), there are lots of products to help you change your look at home. A few guidelines:  Choose a good brand of hair color with well-marked instructions.

Go lighter - but not much! Going one or two shades lighter than your natural color will make a big difference, making your eyes look brighter and your tan darker. If you opt for Marilyn Monroe platinum, wait to do it with a professional colorist.

Try highlights. They're easy to apply and give a natural effect.  Get a girlfriend to help you apply the color - especially in the back - or both of you do your hair at the same time.
