88"Technologies not only influence but actually determine social customs and ethics."



Technology, broadly defined as practical application of knowledge, has extented to almost every aspect of people's daily life in an invisible and formative way,what can be observed in real life. However, a deeper perspective conceals that technology, simultaneously, determine the social custom and ethic of our society, as the author asserts. I strongly agree with the author,while considering historcal experienment and the whole developing course of human beings' culture.



To a great extent, techonology changes the way of communication,which can be easily prooved from people's daily life. For example, Festivals, a time of celebration and family-gathering, which is regarded as a traditional custom and fixed convention. Putting down the present work and coming home to keep company with dear family has long been a part of social ethos. On the other hand, surely there must be someone who may not be able to have a reunion with family and friends, because of various difficulties.  But in modern world, people cannot be curbed on such a pity. With the help of the Internet and the technology of online chat, even the vastest distance could not limit a face-to-face communication. Just several seconds, a computer connected with the Internet and sometimes relative software, a warm and happy family-gathing could be held on time.In this sense, technology certainly change the manner of getting along with others.



From a deeper stand point of view, technology provides the modern public media  with advanced means to transmit information to the general,ultimately would determine the trend of the whole world. Such a decisive function is convinced in the light of historical experiment.  For instance, in the African-American Civil Rightment, during 1960s, Martin Luther King, the racial leader, deeply knew the powerful effect of technology and the profound consequence it would bring about. On the basis of such an awareness, Martin Luther King made full use of the broadcast and addressed his most notable speech "I Have A Dream",which then inspired people, educated people and aroused people to fight for legit rights of the black. It is the technology that engage millions of common persons in the major historical event that shape the world today. Technology, working at a faster speed, expressed the appealing of the black people to a wider range and finally assisted them in legalizing deserved rights. Current consensus of treating black people equally is the best evidence to suggest that technology largely shifted the old-moded ethic habit.



Some may refute that the African-American Civil Right Movement is just a drop in the history ocean, not to mention the technology is only a information-broadcast mean and an assistant tool at most. A single and isolated historical affair is not sufficient to indicate the crutial afluence of technology. Thus what should be done to prove the profound effect brought by tech is to put it into a larger context, namely, the cultural development process of human beings. From conking an animal with a stone to using  rough tools to build simple artificial shelter, from scientific cultivation to invention and usage of steamer, technology keeps its high pace constantly. As a result, rough tools make people get away from starve and exposure to the weather,scientific cultivation and menchanization bring us to a new era, which is marked by increasing argricultural output and industrialization.At the same time, accompanying with the development is the certainly the earth-shaking changes of human society. In the primitive society, the grain yield is decided by natural condition, so primitive would hold annually rutial to pray for rain and the coming-year harvest. But now, greenhouse technology makes it possible for people to be able to plant different kinds of crops, nearly being regardless of the outside environment.



In sum, whether the practical daily life or history could display that technology not only has a effect on people's social custom and ethic but also runs throughout, determines the social custom and ethic. In another word, the history of mankinds must be associated with the progress of technology.
