TOPIC: ARGUMENT140 - The following appeared in a report of the Committee on Faculty Promotions and Salaries at Elm City University.

"During her seventeen years as a professor of botany, Professor Thomas has proved herself to be well worth her annual salary of $50,000. Her classes are among the largest at the university, demonstrating her popularity among students. Moreover, the money she has brought to the university in research grants has exceeded her salary in each of the last two years. Therefore, in consideration of Professor Thomas' demonstrated teaching and research abilities, we recommend that she receive a $10,000 raise and a promotion to Department Chairperson; without such a raise and promotion, we fear that Professor Thomas will leave Elm City University for another college."

The reporter asserts that Elm City University (ECU) should give the professor Thomas (T) a raise as well as a promotion. To support the conclusion the reporter provides several reasons, while the statement is still logically unconvincing.
Firstly, the reporter unfairly assumes that largest class means most popular, but it is not necessarily the case, it is entirely possible that students choose the class only following the curriculum arrangements, or perhaps teachers who taught botany is now not enough. Without more evidence to ruling out other possibility as I gives above, this reason is unconvincing.
Secondly, the research grants that professor Thomas brought to the university
can not be a sufficient evidence in proving her research abilities. It is entirely possible that other professor has brought more grants for the school before. Unless the report provides direct evidence to confirm us any conclusion about her research abilities is unpersuasive.
Finally, the reporter provide no evidence about there are other universities have the willing to employ professor Thomas or she tends to change a job, without more information about whether professor Thomas is tending to changing job the worrying is unreasonable.
In sum, the assertion that ECU should give Professor Thomas higher salary as well as promotion is untenable. To strength the argument, the report need to answer if students really prefer professor Thomas's class and if any more directive evidence can be bring to support her research abilities, at last, the reporter also needs to confirm the statement concern about professor Thomas is tending to work in elsewhere.

The reporter asserts that Elm City University (ECU) (不建议用缩写,又能站字数何乐不为呢)should give the professor Thomas (T) a raise as well as a promotion.
Without more evidence to ruling out other possibility as I gives above, this reason is unconvincing(建议替换,第一段末已出现).
Secondly, the research grants that professor Thomas brought to the university
can not be a sufficient evidence in proving her research abilities. It is entirely possible(我觉得有些中式英文,且已出现一次) that other professor has brought more grants for the school before. Unless the report provides direct evidence to confirm us any conclusion about her research abilities is unpersuasive.
Finally, the reporter provide no evidence about there are other universities have the willing to employ professor Thomas or she tends to change a job, without more information about whether professor Thomas is tending to changing job the worrying is unreasonable.(可能由于时间问题,可能还是进来能够尽量写长些)
