TOPIC: ARGUMENT210 -The following is a letter to the editor of a news magazine.

"Clearly, the successful use of robots on missions to explore outer space in the past 20years demonstrates that robots could be increasingly used to perform factorywork more effectively, efficiently, and profitably than human factory workers. The use of robots in factories would offer several advantages. First, robotsnever get sick, so absenteeism would be reduced. Second, robots do not makemistakes, so factories would increase their output. Finally, the use of robotswould also improve the morale of factory workers, since factory work can be soboring that many workers would be glad to shift to more interesting kinds oftasks."

Inthis argument, the author concludes that robots could be increasingly used onfactory works, and will be more effective, more efficient and more profitablethan human factory workers, for that in the past 20 years robot have showed itsadvantages in the mission of exploring our space. In order better support hisor her conclusion, the arguer also briefly state the advantages the robots willhave in factory works. Although, this letter seems logical to some extent, after careful reflection, it is not persuasive as it stands.
Firstly, the author unfairly assumes that robots will perform same outstanding as theyhave done in the outer space realm. We have to acknowledge that the main reasonrobot perform better than human in outer space is that human have to equippednecessary equipment such as astronomy costume, and the sufficient oxygen, whichcan impede human to perform as normal as they can do on earth. However, robots, they can not be influenced by the severe conditions of outer space, which bringthem more convenience on the mission of outer space than human. On earth, somespecial convenient conditions robots have will disappear, but human can exerttheir abilities. So without considering the different situations, the authorcan not justifiably conclude that robot can replace human on factory worksaccording their performance in outer space.
Secondly, the advantages robots have in factory work cited in the argument may be not aseffective as the author think to support the conclusion.
The robots never get sick, but they have tobe maintained periodically, and sometimes have to change some broken elements, which will make the advantages of absenteeism would be reduced disappear. Robotdo not make mistake, but the people who give them order and input programs maymake mistake, once robot do not work normally, themselves also would not findmistake and stop automatically, which may offset even outweigh the increasedoutput. Can the advantages after using robots in factory work, the authorpredict for human workers, really improve the morale of these factory workers? Tobe true, using robots in factory can liberate human from the boring work. However, interesting jobs can not make the cast majority workers happy and increasetheir morale, because the increased use of robots meanwhile amounts to thedecreased occupations for human worker: with the huge threat from unemployment,I do not think factory can enjoy increased morale of human workers. Withoutconsidering these negative effects, the author can not justifiably concludethat introducing robots to factory works would offer advantages.
Finally, the author unreasonably assumes that these factories will like to purchaserobot and replace human. It is generally known that robots are much expensive. Andusing robots in factory necessarily call for significantly changes in process, which would also cost much. Thereby, the cost of purchases associating with thecost to change would surpass the abilities most factories can undertake. Though, robots might have these advantages the author indicates, factories may notintroducing in after appraising the cost and revenue.
Onbalance, the author fails to sufficiently substantiate his or her conclusion. Inorder to better support this argument, the author need to prove that the robotscan do better than people-whether in outer space or on earth. And the authormust provide more convincing evidence that these advantages mentioned abovewould not be weaken by the potential disadvantages.
