Nowadays, we are in face of many pressing social problems, such as win-win strategy in international
cooperation and competition, or the livelihood of people, which call for drafting policies properly. As
to address such issues, I agree insofar as it is the duty of the politicians and other government experts
who are proficient in judging and tackling those major problems. While it is more effective and
efficient to provide an access for the general public to express their idea and implement their thoughts
and render them the right to engage in the policy-making.
Admittedly, it is an effective and efficient way to address the pressing social issues by leaving them to
the politician and government experts. Enthusiastic in and responsible for such problems, they will
not sit aside to let these problems go unbridled. On the basis of the tactic, knowledge and experience
accumulated during the process of learning and careers as well, they will be apt to view these issues in
a more balanced perspective, therefore come up with more potent approaches to solving these
problem. Consider, when a certain country has done something that harms the interest of our own or
violates the integrity of our nation, informed politicians and government experts will take a prudent
action by taking every possibility into consideration and striking all the competing interests into
balance. on one hand, they acclaim the protest and maintain the reputation of our country; on the other
hand, their deeds will rarely render a bad impetus on economic and politic between the two countries
in the long run, thus resulting in a win-win solution.
On the contrary, confronted with such situation, we general public resort to boycott. Impelled by the
raw patriotism, we are prone to refuse any product of that country, without thinking it over. So
insanely have we undertaken the boycott that we just hold on for just a few days until the miasma
disperse and the undue fanaticism wane. However, the situation is exacerbated rather than alleviated.
Although the enthusiasm is blameless indeed, the lack of enough prudence which is the serious
demerit of the general public may undermine the feasibility of the policy to some extent.
However, major policy decisions should not always be left to the politicians and government experts.
Limited by their status or certain environment, politicians and government expert are not always in
tight contact with the general publics, not to mention getting a clear view of the requirement of the
general publics. Furthermore, it is a threshold matter to give the priority to the interests and rights of
the general public first in a democratic society. By providing the general public with an opportunity to
formulate their needs and necessities and draw a blue print of the policy they long for, the politicians
and the general experts will know what is behind the prosperity and may get rid of the would-be crises.
In sum, encouraging the general public to take part in politic will serve as complement to the regular
procedure of policy-making, which in turn prompts the effectiveness and efficiency of policy-making.
To conclude, much credence should be laid on the politicians and government expert that they will
make better judgment and deal with the situation more effectively and efficiently. Nonetheless, the
possibilities for the general public to engage in policy-making should not be ignored. In such way, we
can come to a just and open policy that is aimed at the promotion of the society. |
