TOPIC: ARGUMENT45 - The following appeared as an editorial in a wildlife journal.
"Arctic deer live on islands in Canada's arctic region. They search for food by moving over ice from island to island during the course of a year. Their habitat is limited to areas warm enough to sustain the plants on which they feed, and cold enough, at least some of the year, for the ice to cover the sea separating the islands, allowing the deer to travel over it. Unfortunately, according to reports from local hunters, the deer populations are declining. Since these reports coincide with recent global warming trends that have caused the sea ice to melt, we can conclude that the decline in arctic deer populations is the result of deer being unable to follow their age-old migration patterns across the frozen sea."

In this argument, the author points out that the arctic deer decreased as a result of the global warming, which led to the thaw of the sea ice so that the deer could not travel from island to island to search for food. The conclusion seems convincing at first glance, however, a careful examnation would reveal how groundless it is.
First, the author's assumption that the number of the deer is diminishing is gratuitous. We are informed that the local hunters refelcted the decrease of arctic deer;but the specific information about these hunters are not provided. Perhaps the number of hunters is too small to stand for the overall attitude 【s】of the hunters towards this phenomenon. Or maybe the time they hunt disaccords with the life habits of arctic deer,so they rarely see the appearance of the deer, which may leave them a wrong impression of the decreasing of the deer.Without all this information provided, we have every【?】 reason to doubt the truthworthiness of the hunters' report.
Granted that the amount of arctic deer really reduced, the arguer commits another fallacy of "after this, therefore, because of this".Because there is no evidence indicating that the local temperature soared up dramatically【飙升在这里是不是有点夸张啊】 and the sea ice all melt as a result of the global warming. Perhaps the local temperature only suffes a mild fluctuation【题中没有提到温度升高的程度,这里攻击我觉得可以指出这一点,而不是给arguer强加一个观点,或者是可以攻击全球与地域的范围模糊问题】 and the sea ice is not melting so much to the extent that the arctic deers cannot travel around the islands for food. Thus the global warming trend does not pose any threats on the deer's migration patterns.Even if the sea ice disappeared due to the increasing temperature, the arctic deer can seek for another living pattern , such as expanding their variety of food instead of traveling far to eat ,to keep a balanced amount. 【这里还可以说global warming makes plants grow beter,so more food】
In addition, 【even though GW cause SI melt.and contribute to AD's declare】there are other alternatives on the reason why the number of arctic deer is shrinking【?】. It is probably because the chasers hunt the deer excessively or there is a new species invading the deer’s habitat and destroy the delicate ecological balance upon【个人认为放在句尾保险一点】 which the arctic deers depand. Unless the arguer takes all the other possilities into consideration, the conclusion is unconvincing.
To sum up, the argument is too fallaciously blemished to be sound. To solidify the argument, we need more information about the hunters 【to】 support the trustworthiness of their report.【这句话内容有问题,猎人的报告的有效性不能靠对猎人的调查来解决,这里可以推荐重新搞一个对AD的调查,或者大量采访各地的猎人,并记录】tion, the arguer need to provide more evidence that it is indeed global warming rather than other factors that results in the decrease of arctic deers.
