By their very definition, arts are the products to convey ideas and emotion. The assertion made by the speaker that arts revealed the otherwise hidden ideas of a society partly generalized about arts because it only refers to some of the ideas. In fact, by the number of people these ideas shared, arts should be categorized into two sorts: the most people's arts and the few people's arts.

For the most people's arts, they are the reflection of the mainstream ideas. The first reason should account for that is most people's ideas are accordance with the theme of their times. For example, it was Christian the dominant theme of the medieval age; accordingly, the paintings of that period were permeated with ample Christian content-Trinity, virgin birth of Christ, Holy mother, and so forth.
