In this issue, the speaker hastily alleges that immediate problems of today should be paid more attention to than anticipated problems of the future, where lays my contention that anticipated problems are of the same importance with immediate problems. My points are discussed as follows.
I concede the importance of tackling recently immediate problems by governments. After all, these problems are so urgent that relate to our normal live and need to be paid lots of attention, otherwise would generate severer problems. For instance, drug abuse, which is regarded as one of the top social issues in the world, including alcohol abuse and other prescription abuse, will result in mental illness as well as social isolation. Related investigation shows that drug abuse accounts for a high rate of suicide cases: at least 1/3 suicide ascribes to alcohol and other drug abuse. Meanwhile, more and more adolescent crimes happens dues to the abuse of alcohol and prescription drugs among them. If governments do not handle the problems immediately, more deaths would pay for that and more teenagers would step into the forbidden doors. What's more, a myriad of families would be immersed into a sad emotion for the loss of families and all kinds of crimes would be everywhere in the society. Such problems disrupt the society peace, and form security threats to the public. This is why governments should focus on these issues, otherwise the aftermath resulted from them would be so serious that we could not imagine.
Nevertheless, anticipated problems should not be overlooked as well, since they would become the immediate problems to our offspring. As we all know, such problems as global warming, education, energy crisis, have long-term damages to the world and could not be solved at once. Accordingly, even if less severity than immediate present problems is exhibited right now, they are of great urgency and needs governments take measures to control instantly. Or else they would have bad effects in further future and do harm to our offspring’s lives. Thinking about oil crisis, one of the anticipated problems of today, which comes from the increasing demand and stagnant production, reveals in price arise in economy. As is known to us all, since the industrial revolution, petroleum has played a crucial role in a number of areas, for instance, automobile production, transportation industry, and commercial trade. It is no doubt that petroleum has controlled the lifeblood of economical development, and become an indispensable part of our lives. Whereas, after hundreds of years’ exploiting, residual petroleum shows scarcity on quantity and is believed to be used up in the following years. If governments do not take actions to explore other new-type energy resources, once petroleum has been used up the whole world would sink into a chaotic situation: endless wars fighting for energy resources, poverty exists all over the world, and horrible diseases spreading around us. For the purpose of preventing the anticipated aftermath, a great many of countries have brought forward a proposal which is named sustainable development, aiming at rescuing the environments, slowing down the consumes of non-renewable resources, and leaving our offspring a better living condition. This example aptly makes the illustration that for the sake of preventing disasters from happening, government should not neglect the importance of anticipated problems.
In sum, immediate problems and anticipated problems are of the same importance, either of them be neglected would made us suffer incredible social difficulties, even result in stagnancy of further development. This is why governments should focus their attention on both of them. |
