Issue103: The study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives.

Many people think that only the study of history which is related to our daily lives is valuable. From my perspective, I concur with this assertion that any study of history has value no matter whether it is relevant to daily life or not.

At the beginning, let us know the purpose of history study. Studying history aims to learn something from the past, and look forward into the future. Studying the history of culture, we can know there are various cultures in the world, such as the East’s, the West's, the Islam's, the Buddhism's; studying the history of economy, we can know that there exist many kind of thoughts in the world, such as the school of Austrian, the school of Keynesian, the school of Classic. With these existing histories, people maybe can describe a blueprint of the future. Under knowing the purpose of the history study, we can go further with our discussion.

Admittedly, the study of history which has relationship with daily life is valuable. This kind of research can provide a lot of useful information on how to solve today's problems. Take the study of economy history for example. From Adam Smith to Keynes, economy has developed for hundreds of years. When looking back, we could find that the period would last for a long time when every depression happened in the history, and governments had no method to deal with it, companies had bankrupted, workers had lost jobs. Since depression happened, many scholars and researchers began to study this phenomenon, and have made numerous of progress. So when the Financial Crisis happened in 2008, governments cooperated with each other, and took a series of measurements to prevent the economy from being depressed. Finally, these measurements have effected, and now the economy has started to develop in a positive direction. Thanks to the study of economical history, people know how to deal with it as soon as possible to prevent dramas happened again. Or, maybe we still live in a hard life, queue in line to wait for government's funding. In a word, studying history which is relevant to daily life is very important.

However, the study of history which refers to other respects is also valuable. Hundreds of people always have hundreds of thoughts about value. Some people believe that the history study related with daily life is important, just as we say above, others consider that it is valuable as long as he or she is interested in. I agree with this point of view. If someone interests something, then he or she will take it seriously, and tries his or her best to accomplish it which will embody the value. For example, many scholars are interested in archaeology which people communicate with the things having a hundred, or even a thousand of years. Obviously, the old things are little value in our daily live, if we claim that daily life is just referring to food, wearing, living, and walking. But archaeologists regard it has a great value to them. They enjoy the excitement when the old things are found, and please with the moment when they confirm the old things belonging to which times. So we cannot say that only the study of history which is related to daily life is valuable.

To sum up, based what have discussed above, I believe that not only the study of history which is relevant to daily life, but also other aspects which
people have interest in them have value. With both of the two sides, our history can become more abundant and compelling.
