This trend began shortly after harmful bacteria were found in a few raw Gulf Coast oysters. But scientists have now devised a process for killing the bacteria. Once consumers are made aware of the increased safety of Gulf Coast oysters, they are likely to be willing to pay as much for Gulf Coast as for northeastern Atlantic Coast oysters, and greater profits for Gulf Coast oyster producers will follow.

In this argument the author points out that, some harmful bacteria were found in a few raw Gulf Coast oysters which result in the different price between Atlantic Coast and Gulf Coast. If killing the bacteria is processing, it will remove this difference of price and greater profits for Gulf Coast oyster produces will follow. However, the editorial points are not well-reasoned in some aspects.

First, the argument hold the assumption that in the past five years, California consumers have been willing to pay twice as much for Atlantic oysters as for Gulf oysters results from the discovery of harmful bacteria. However, the difference of price of oysters in these two regions is not owing to the harmful bacteria founded directly. The northeastern Atlantic Coast may have a higher consumer level than Gulf Coaster. In addition, it can be rationally speculated that there is no harmful bacteria to be found in Atlantic Coast and perhaps it addresses this problem by using some high technological devices which cost more money to make cost rise. In the contrary, the point of the process for killing bacteria will increase profit is unverifiable as the same reason. In short, the argument that do not support any evidences to show whether the populace really concerned about the bacteria in oyster is unsubstantial.

In the other hand, even if killing the bacteria is processed, the result may not change that Gulf Coast oyster tent to catch up with the price of transaction of Atlantic oysters as the argument predicts. For past five years, consumer have accustomed the Atlantic Coast oysters about their particular taste gradually so that they will not choose a new product which they would like pay twice lower payment before. And, by heating the foodstuff can also remove harmful bacteria is a effective method in our daily life. Therefore, it is entirely possible that most consumers will keep continuing to accept Atlantic oysters.

Overall, the argument just depends on the only reason that process for killing bacteria will remove the different prices, and contribute to a higher profit of Gulf oysters is unpersuasive. In order to settle this problem, make an investigation that whether the residents would have a try to taste oysters from Gulf Coaster and if so, they prefer to these new products rather than the former foodstuff may more substantial to bolster this assumption.
