Numerous soldiers sacrificed themselves forthe independence of United  States while only George Washington wasremembered as the first president of the government. Without other’s efforts,who can imagine that Sir Winston Churchill was able to defend his hometown fromHitler’s bombers. These individuals alone would have nothing to do to changethe world. However the world chose them and impressed their names in thehistory. The reason is simple, that the more rare, the more valuable.

In the social evolution and scientificdevelopment, it is some individual, or more positively---hero, who leads thetotal population to make the achievements. Admittedly, one drop of water cannotform the ocean and the Amazon is far from a single tree. However, the specific heroesin the society just act as the enzyme in biochemical reactions. They are ableto gather powers from different people, both friends and competitors; and theyare to keep themselves aware of the whole situation. Just take the finding ofDNA double helix as an example. We have no idea how many years might be delayedwhen James Walson and Francis Crick publish that concise article on Nature, ifscientists like Sanger and Franklin or the whole group in Cambridge had no interests in the field ofmolecular biology. However, only these two geniuses, together with Wilkins,were awarded the Nobel Prize later. Why? The difference is marked when they announcedtheir discovery in The Eagle Pub. These small groups of individuals share theability to sum up formers’ findings and create new flashes. Similardiscriminations also lie between Albert Einstein and numbers of unknownphysicists, who instead spend most of their lifetime in explaining the Newton’ laws. When we turnto the history of humanity, a negative example is also available to us---AdolphHitler. I am always willing to ask a question without those crazy minds ofraces, would the history struggle in the Second World War or at least theslaughter of Jews? In other words, these individuals are just like the brain.Every minute, it tells the rest parts of human body what to do---say---theheart to beat, and the stomach to contract.

However, this is not the whole story.Vegetable can still maintain his life, while soft brain single can do nothing.A society in lack of heroes is able to undergo several problems in a short period.Yet an UKonly possessing Winston Churchill would not survive even for one day. That iswhy someone argues the significance of population, just as the assertionindicates, instead of some individuals in history. But I do not believe theseindividuals are overemphasized. According to Archimedes, by a fulcrum, one isable to move the Earth. The question is how many fulcrums are available to usfrom a population. One out of a thousand students graduated from California Instituteof Technology is a Nobel laureate, while it does not imply that the rest arenot outstanding. We feel the moon is brighter than any other stars because itis much loser. Similar principles apply well in this situation. The small groupwalks along side with the history and ahead of the population. While the mostare still hesitating the structure of chromosome, Dr. McClintock has alreadypioneered in the field of transposon lonely for years with taunts anddisagreements. Of course, the followers pushed the development of her theory,but who can guarantee another scientist make the same achievements for thehistory under the same condition.

All in all, it is easy to follow others,while harder to lead others. Not everyone can bear the pain of the No.1 in Marathon.Personality, characteristics and the history itself together create theindividual memorized forever by us. Therefore, the rest do not need to feeldepressed or get angry after realizing that you belong to the large group.After all, you have enjoyed yourselves in the race of ten kilometers.
