55The following appeared in a Letter to the Editor of the Shady Village newspaper.

"Commuters are complaining that the rush hour traffic on Blue Highway between Shady Village and Bright City has doubled their commuting time. Some commuters have asked that an additional traffic lane be built, but the recent creation of such a lane on nearby Green Highway apparently attracted more commuters, judging from the fact that rush-hour traffic jams actually increased there this past winter. To reduce rush-hour traffic on Blue Highway, a bicycle lane should be added instead of a traffic lane. This approach will succeed because many citizens of Shady Village are avid bicyclists; 75 percent of respondents to a recent questionnaire distributed there said they would like to bicycle more hours per week than they currently do."

The author asserts that in order to reduce rush-hour traffic on Blue Highways, a bicycle lane should be built instead of a traffic lane.To justify the statement the author proposed that firstly the creation of traffic lane on nearby Green Highway attracts more commuters ; secondly numerous citizens of Shady Village are avid bicyclists, thirdly 75% of the interviewers are in support to build a new bicycle lane, rather than to construct traffic lane. In my persfective the statement rests on some unsubstatiated assumptiosns and logically flawed, thus could not convince me as it stands.

First and foremost, the author could not prove that what took place in Green Highway would sure to recur at our district. In the first palce, people living in different areas are sure to keep different habits, custom, and tradition, so the citizens in Green Highway may be less interested in exercises or bicycle sport,or they are more affluent in househould income, which lead to more private cars hold. In the second place, it is possible that the geographic condition in Green Highway is not fitble for bicycle exercises, therefore they have no other choices.

Furthermore, the interviwers are not presented ellected randomized, and the amount of the people was not mentioned. It is crutical in statistics that the members that enlisted into experiment group should be chosen randomized, which could represent the common people.Becides, the quantity of the members should reach a certain standard. By contrast,
in the investigation the quantity and the measurement of ellection is unknown, so what if the people were all come from young generation and they love sports, or the amount of the people is too small, which is not broad enough, thus is nonsense pratically.

In addtion, the survey could not prove that even the bicyclist would prefer to going to work by bicycle forever, what if the hoby just a trend among people, they may change their mind in the future, So there are several possibilities

To sum up ,since several possibilities lie in this argument, the reasoning is unreasonable and unconvicing. In order to convincing me, the wirter should propose more evidences to justify the point.
