TOPIC: ISSUE120 - "So much is new and complex today that looking back for an understanding of the past provides little guidance for living in the present."

The technology, which in a high speed development, become so complex and abstract that many new inventions and phenomenon is unable to be expressed by the past experience. However, human should not neglect the important effects by the past provided because of they contain abundant meanings. To the efforts of our descendent which draw a lesson from the past, the past experience will provide useful guidance for the current society.

Admittedly, many new phenomenon and discoveries are hardly explained by the past experience. In my observation, over the past several hundred years, human society has significant change out of people’s imagination-no matter the first stream engine was invented or the electronic period approach. Just for the rapid development, numerous recent events can not derive from the past experience. For instance, the hot topic concerned by many scientists that whether the Mars has water is still unknown. This research is relevant to a new domain that there is no data that our predecessor bequeathed to us. Maybe, some one argues that we have the data about moon which is a planet like Mars. But the arguer overlooks that these information is not proper when it used to solve the hot problem in Mars. Indeed, in these fields that still in exploring, to look back is not a sagacious choice.

However, in some fields, history always repeats itself in an amazing way. Undoubtedly, the past is a vividly book that record all the human’s behaviors not only succeed and flourishing but also lose and corruption. Our predecessor realizes that to summarize the past will be helpful when they confront the similar problems recently. The financial crisis happened in the two years ago is a good example, this crisis was not an accidental events but the certain result for the limitation of contemporary economic system. The researchers summarized the economic laws from past financial crisis and applied it in the latest one. By these laws, the government presented a series of policies and measures and then alleviated the influence by this crisis. Therefore, summarized the past is necessary because of it has value in recent society to some extent.

Nevertheless, although the summarized experience is useful, human should not apply it without concerning the actual situation. Clearly, look back to the past only point out what we do in the past is wrong but not give a certain answer about the current problems. In the early days of the founding of new China, their leaders had made a choice that completely copying the Soviet model of socialism. This choice seems to be reasonable for it succeed to apply in Soviet but to be considered a bad one in the development of China. So facing the precious experience summarized by predecessors, we must keep calm on analyzing whether the experience can apply in the contemporary problems.
  
To sum up, to study the past is helpful for our recent living. However, although the past experience is precious, human-being should view it just as a guide rather than the universal pattern.
