The speaker claims that the world should try to help build a global university for solving the most persistent social problems by cultivating such a group of specialized students. I fundamentally agree, yet there may exist some problems which need further discussion.
First turning to the purpose of such a particular university, as the speaker indicates, it is to help solve the most persistent social problems.
I affirm this kind of university has its significant meaning to survive. As our world has been on a irreversible journey to the globalization and assimilation, a large amount of social problems have came up and some of them seem to be impossible to solve merely depend on one nation or a small group of union. The problems, such as terrorism and global warming can only be solved with the endowments and cooperation of the whole world. Therefore, establishing such an university could accumulate the intellect of the whole society and promote international cooperation in many other aspects such as economics and politics.
However, since the speaker says that all the nations should be requested to participate in it, I suppose it may be kind of unfair and unrealistic for the poor country. As we know, the poor countries, such as Haiti which has been suffering from two centuries of poverty, cannot provide enough food and basic living conditions for their citizens. How could it be possible for them to talk about financing and helping build such an international university for the sake to make a contribution to the world? Lacking sufficient capital and strength, though they may have the will, it still unrealistic for them to fulfil. So if we determine to set up such an global universities, we should also take the different conditions of various countries into consideration and I maintain it will more appreciate if the countries are encouraged but not required to do so.
Finally, how this kind of university is going to operate is also a critical question. To some extent, the way the university operates could determine whether it is a good idea to build it. The most persistent social problems, for instance, the global warming, which is even hardly to be solved by sophisticated politicians, how do we believe dilemmas like this could be settled by the efforts of graduates from this global university? As far as I concerned, the world, as a whole, should respond for the problems caused by the rapid development of our society. And a university like this should also be established in a harmonious environment involves the global teaching resources and all the students could communicate with each other equally and freely. It is significant not to turn it into anther stage for endless disputes and trustless promises.
To sum up, to build a international university to solve the most difficult and persistence social problem is a feasible and good idea if it could work in a rational and appropriate way. Therefore, our world will benefit from it in many respects, including education, international communication and so forth.
