In this era of dramatic social and culturaldevelopment causing most of the things changed radically, perhaps no one wantsto forget the past. It is obvious that there are myriad benefits of studyingthe history, however, squarely claiming the chief one is to break down theillusion that people in one period of time are significantly different frompeople who lived at any other time in history can not be easy accepted.

First of all, undoubtedly, studying thehistory will help us to find the similarity among people who live in differentperiod of time. No matter how many years have past, something are stillpermanent or hard to change. The forever pursuing for goodliness as well as theinevitable evil inheres in the human nature is the best illustration. Lookingback into history, we can see our predecessors’ desires, motives, fesrs and so on so forth. Through comparing ourselvesto the predecessors, we will rethink about ourselves. So, history is just likea mirror, it can help us understand ourselves much better.

What is more, to understand such similarityis very helpful for us to deal with the things happened currently, for mostcauses of problems can be traced to the same origin, in that we tend to say"the past has repeated itself". It is wise for us to learn from themyriad experiences summed up by our predecessors in the history, so that we canavoid repeating the same mistake. History is like an old man who has gonethrough many hardships. When we meet problems we can turn to him, and he canteach us how to deal with them effectively.

However, studying the history also helps usto find the dissimilarity of people living in different times, it is importanttoo. Because only through the differences can we realize the development of oursociety. Just as every man in the world must experience the process from youngto mature, from innocence to sophisticate, from blindness to wisdom, oursociety is the same, so the life style, the philosophy, the knowledge of peoplein different times are significantly different. To study such dissimilarity ofpeople is good for us to know the paces of social progress, thus we canunderstand the law of social development. For example, by looking back into thehistory, we can see that capitalism is superior to feudalism, because theformer regime is better emancipating the social productive forces than thelatter one. So that we can understand to abolish feudalism is a necessaryresult of social development.

To sum up, the benefit which we get fromlearning the history is multiple. Distinction and resemblance existing amongpeople who living in different times are equally significant. Without knowingthe distinction, we can not see the pace of social development; without understandingthe resemblance, we can not use the experience of the predecessors. So, both ofthem are important benefits for us to study the history.
