Someone had said that everything will change except change. I strongly believe that history is a teacher who guides us find solid principles from changes. However, it is too extreme and pessimistic to say the study of history has value only to the extent that it is relevant to our daily lives, especially considering that we have been guided by history in some fields.
To begin with, many things have been learned by us in our daily lives through the study of history. From Mahatma Gandhi who is bestowed the title of Father of India, we learned that we can fight for our rights and freedom by a peaceful way not by violence. From Bill Clinton's sexual scandal, we know that a public official must maintain a high ethical and moral standard to make the public believe that he is just the right one to lead them, or he will fall down from where he rose up. From Edison, the greatest inventor, we get the courage to face the failure, and know that only way to success is keeping working hard and overcoming the fear of failures. So, without the study of history, we may lose ourselves in modern society.
However, the study of history plays an important role not only in daily life but also in other fields, such as economy, literature, wars and so on. For instance, when we face the Economic crisis, the New Deal may come into our mind. The New Deal was a series of economic programs passed by Congress during the first term of Franklin D. Roosevelt. The programs were responses to the Great Depression, and focused on what historians call the 3 Rs: relief, recovery and reform. That is, relief for the unemployed and poor, recovery of the economy to normal levels, and reform of the financial system to prevent a repeat depression. It is apparent that many nations learn the experience of the New Deal which passes a lot of programs to help the development of the economy. Like Chinese government, it had passed a series of programs to overcome Economic crisis, especially a program called China Railway High Speed which will cost about 200 billion Yuan.
In addition, when we human beings face difficulties or do not know how to bring about a  better society, the study of history is the one we asked for. When the earthquake happened in Sichuan Provence, the whole world came to help the people there, since the history told us that it is not only a disaster to Sichuan Provence, not only a disaster to China, but a disaster to our human beings. When World War 2 which causes million of people losing their lives comes to our mind, our rights and freedom can be fought for by a peaceful way not by voilence. When more and more people have been infected with HIV, the experience of healing other deadly diseases like Smallpox tells us that outstanding doctors in this field should share their research, and the only thing we fear is fear itself.   
To sum up, history is the wealth that ancestors give us. The study of history helps us both in daily life and in overcoming difficulties.
