What is the crucial and demanding element in evaluating a successful education? The author asserts it is the accordance with the individual needs and interests of each student. I strongly agree that the individual interests do contribute to achieving success, however, it is unadvisable and impractical for schools and universities only to put emphasis on how to satisfy the students' needs, other important factors such as the social responsibility should also be taken into consideration when referring to the point how to educate a student effectively.
Admittedly, the individual interests may be the necessary and important motivation for students to make tremendous achievements which bring leaps to the human beings. As the Einstein's saying, ' Interest is the best teacher', Interest can make student(students), or even all the people, keep a positive mood in learning new knowledge and explore(exploring) our unknown world, and may serve a sanguine attitude towards drawbacks and hardships during their learning and researching so as to expedite the learn or researching process. Several influential inventions and theories also come from the individual interests. Darwin, the father of the theory of natural selection, whose work was of major influence on the life and earth and on modern thought in general, dropped off the medical college and abandoned a clergyman of the Church of England to pursue his strong love towards biology, and finally result in one of the most famous biologists in history. Bill Gates, the chairman of Microsoft Corporation, also give(gave) up his study in Harvard, subsequently published Windows, the great operating system of computers.
However, the satisfaction of individual interests and needs are not the only and decisive factors that lead to the success of education while other factors that should not be ignored. Social responsibilities, one of the elements that should not be neglected in education, may possibly decide how the students contribute to the society and the human beings. Person, indeed, is the cell of the society, the one makes great and tremendous contributions to the society the whole will be memorized while these only satisfied the individual need and curiosity will not even known by others. Cloning, the heating topic nowadays, the process of creating an exact copy of a single gene, cell, or organism, can be utilized to expedite the development of biopharmaceutics, a study on drugs using genetic engineering in order to make the medicine more powerful and effective in curing human disease. However, it can also develop into human cloning as well which will cause a confusion of moral and other serious social problems. How to make decisions what to study on? The social responsibility may instruct the correct way to go which can certainly result(results) in huge achievements and contributions to the world.
Besides, the individual need and interest of students should be satisfied after the preliminary education is received so that the students can make wise and sensible judgment about what they actually prefer. When I was in the primary school (at an) early age, I remember(remembered) that the majority of the students have the dream to become a scientist, however, is it advisable for primary school to adjust their curriculums to educate them to be scientists? It is quite impractical indeed. Their dreams to be scientists were greatly influenced by books, their parents, and may not be the factual preferences of them. The correct way of education in primary schools should be the help and assistance offered to these students to form their interests and dreams.
In sum, under no circumstance can an educator ignore the need(needs) and interests of students, however, other factors such as social responsibilities, the age should also be taken into consideration. |
