TOPIC: ISSUE10 - "Governments must ensure that their major cities receive the financial support they need in order to thrive, because it is primarily in cities that a nation's cultural traditions are preserved and generated."
WORDS: 510

Major cities are now the key of nation due to its political and economic function, which determines that cities occupy the main status to thrive the whole nation. Taking all these into consideration, there is no doubt that financial support governments offered is worthy and reasonable. However, when it comes to the cultural traditions, I can hardly believe that it is valuable in financing cities wishing to receive certain feedback. So I partially agree with the idea given by the speaker that cities need funds provided by the governments.
Amounts to current situation of most nations, it isn't difficult to be figured out that cities are leading major economic waves in the entire nation. Economic recession, for instance, in recent years, including United States, are suffered widely. The most distinguish phenomenon is the economic crisis in cities. New York, as we are widely acknowledged, is one of the most severe victims of the economic crisis. At the same time, we can observe, as well, that it can soon be rethrive under the guidance and the sponsor of the government, as an optimistic tendency is shown gradually. There is no doubt that government's finance weighs, to some extent, in such circumstance. Cities thrive and government ties slightly. Thus, finance is urgely necessary for major cities.
Although I concede that supports from governments values, the reasons should not be as speaker stands, for cultural traditions owes weak relation with cities. Culture is sometimes disturbed by the development of a city. Tokyo, as we are widely accepted, is the major city in Japan, which is modern and well established, while Lijiang is a tiny town in China with tremendous treasures of historic culture. Cautiously as Japan preserves their culture, customs and tradition still lost
due to the explosion of the establishment of city; the culture in Tokyo is comparably less than Lijiang, whose traditions can relatively protected through natural ways. Therefore, funding the major cities aiming at preserving and generating the cultural tradition is far from wisdom.

On the contrary, if the purpose of governments stands on protecting cultural traditions, funds had better transferred to countryside instead. As is widely accepted that it is the blocked development contributing to the existence of culture, one may often regard the underdeveloped as the place well conserved. Hence, sponsoring major cities might be a misunderstood of the reality. Or changes in the aim of fund should be made to be prosperous the cities, for economic reasons and other political reasons. Not until does the government judge which is more urgent, it cannot be decided where the finance flows. Hence, part of the speakers opinion may be misleading.
To conclude, I hold the view the author presented mostly for his intention to place a key position of cities in nations and finance them, but I question the purpose to preserve the culture. Grounded that the traditions are the major consideration of government, some remote areas should be concerned, while cities are, given that the economic are more valuable and the amount nation needs for its whole development.
