“It is artist,not critics ,who gives society something of lasting value.”

I can not completely agree with the speaker that it is the artist,not the critic,who gives society something of lasting value.The speaker is seemed ignore the function of the critics to the artistic works and overrating the role of artists in the development of arts.However,in the real world,cutting apart the artists and the critics is unrealistic.

Admittedy,the artists have the curcail role in the creation of the artistic works of lasting value.Through novels,music,paintings and other styles of arts,the artists use their imginations and skills to present their views of the world,their thoughts about the beauty, the society,thet truth and so on.They build different aesstical standards in different period of the world.Most of the famous artists had made a long effort before they became famous and it always took a long time for people to accept their archievements.The influence the artists brought will last an amazing long time.For example,Ludwig van Beethoven,an great composer and pianist,even he has been died for nearly two hundred yeas.His music will never die and the influence on people will last longer and longer.The important position of artists is obvise.It is the artists who creat the artistic works which has long lasting values.However, the function of the critics can not be ignored.It is the critics let these works shine.

The critics’ archievements are easily neglected by people.What the critics present are always the comments about the artistic value,structure,asestic,culture backgrouds of the works.Most of them are invisible thoughts and theorys.It is a common situition that ordinary people can not very understand the works.However,under the help of the crictics,they understand the works and have the emotional response.After that ,what they remember is how great are the works and the artists.Seldom people will remenber it is the critics let them undersdand these works.Critics provide the common people with the opportunities to undersand the further meaning behind the apperance of the works.Without the commentators,the value of these works are also hardly recognized by the common people.It needs a long time and special knowledge to know what the artists want to express throug the works and what kind of methods they use.So it is the the artists create the “lasting of value”and the critics find out it.

Further more,critics also make some contributes to the development of arts.No one can be a successful artist at first.Constant practice and study is very important especially to those young artists who has little experience about the creation of artistc works.However,qualified critics have long experience of appreciating the artistic works.The comments they give sometimes will help these artists to find out what problems they have and the place where they can improve.The artists and the critics can work and make progress together and ultimitaly the lasting artistic works can be created.

Arts are not merely artistic works,artistic creation,or artistic appreciationg.Only uniting these three elements can arts be complete.Hence,both artists and critics play an important role in the development of arts.
